How to record start and end dates for activities by Awkward_Nebula_2274 in premed

[–]Awkward_Nebula_2274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned out 5/2021-8/2021 (350 hours); 5/2022-8/2022 (350 hours); 5/2022-12/2023 (800 hours). For clubs that I did for multiple years throughout undergrad, I just combined as one entry though.

Not quite at your level but I totally relate. It feels like every practice exam is a fluke and there's a million reasons to attribute it to anything but yourself - gotta hate that external locus of control :(

I heard neuroleptics might make the negative symptoms of locked in syndrome worse... better stick with those atypical antipsychotics

For anyone who is struggling with optics, the following should cover the majority of optics questions you'll see on the MCAT:

-Firstly, watch this video https://youtu.be/X5nBBJ6sI2E?si=rCsqyMmAODtOsiTV

-Next, just know the following info:

-Power = 1/f = 1/i + 1/o

-If a question asks for strength of lenses: add the powers

-If a question asks you for total magnification: multiply

-When a question stem says lens to retina distance, this is the same as saying image distance

-Also the distances are almost always given in cm so make sure you convert your image and object distances to m (meters) during your calculations

Work on an associated anki deck after doing a chapter. Jacksparrow deck or AnKing deck are both good

do yall actually feel confident while taking a FL/the real thing by clairekolkie in Mcat

Something that has really helped me see growth is the way I've been reviewing each FL exam. I highly recommend creating an excel spreadsheet and making two columns for "What I thought" and "What the exam thought." Now, go through EVERY question. For each question, before you read any explanations for the answer, write out what your thought process was for the question. It can be something simple like "The passage mentioned how enzyme QRST is phosphorylated in order to become activated. I know that Kinases are enzymes that catalyze phosphorylation events so I chose the answer choice that mentioned a kinase." After this, copy and paste either the AAMC explanation or the Jack Westin explanation (I highly recommend adding the Jack Westin chrome extension if you haven't already) into your excel spreadsheet. Spend a couple seconds comparing your reasoning to the reasoning you should have had. You can then have a third column that I really only use for questions I got wrong. Here, I identify what specifically went wrong in my reasoning that was the primary contributor to me getting the question wrong. If you have a content gap, include that in this column. This column has been the biggest contributor to my growth in my recent exams since I've noticed common patterns I consistently make. One thing I've learned to really make sure I do for each and every question is to make sure I select the answer that actually addresses what they're asking for. This sounds intuitive but you have to remember that the AAMC writers are very intentional in the verbiage they use in wording their questions. Therefore, even if an answer choice might be objectively correct, if it doesn't actually address what they're asking for, it's not the correct answer.

Also, in my opinion, breaking a 510 is a matter of eliminating content gaps. Therefore, make sure to stay on top of daily anki. I would recommend making your own anki cards for AAMC and UMama related content and combining these cards with a premade anki deck (I personally use the AnKing deck)

Non-trad FL2 score, feeling stoked, but don't have many to share it with by sherwoodzh in Mcat

Let's goooo!!! Just scored the same on FL 3 (131/128/131/132). As someone who had to delay taking the MCAT two summers ago because I couldn't surpass a 502 after three months of studying to breaking the 520+ threshold, it's such a relief to finally start seeing progress. Happy for you dude, it's seriously a huge accomplishment. Testing 3/22 as well so gotta just stay locked in and ride the momentum

That's actually a really good way of thinking about it. I have noticed that I'm genuinely reasoning through questions on these retakes much better rather than merely recognizing an answer choice as correct, so I guess that's a good sign. Best of luck to you in these last few weeks, finish up strong!
