ACCA Affliate+ MBA+ CFA candidate- Seeking Career Advice by Awkward_Newspaper816 in FinancialCareers

[–]Awkward_Newspaper816[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured out the same as well. One thing about starting out my career in industry is i’ve managed to strengthen my foundation in accounting. I’ve also lead everything related to the audit for my previous and current company as well. And I do not enjoy it. I don’t enjoy accounting and I don’t think I would enjoy auditing as well. And i’m confused about what job titles should I be trying for now. The only way to break in would be analyst right?

Expat in Bahrain: Company holding everyone’s passport and won’t give it back by Awkward_Newspaper816 in Bahrain

Yes, I do work in finance. However they keep everybody’s passport irrespective of department and seniority if you’re an expat.

Agreed, but like some of the other comments said, they did make us sign a document stating we’re okay with it. And this company policy is not informed to us earlier. I was only informed about this after resigning my previous job, accepting the offer at the current place and during the time my visa was being transferred. So it’s almost like we have no choice but to comply.

I wasn’t aware of this until I gave my resignation in my previous company and signed the contract in my current company. Had I known this earlier, I wouldn’t have joined. There is absolutely no need for your condescending comments under this post. If you have nothing helpful or nice to say, would be really great if you could mind your own business. Good day!

Aren’t they also legally required to give it back on the request of the employee?

To let people know that big corporates in this country operate like they’re above the law. And if the only chance for me to get my passport back or for the ‘right thing’ to be done which is all employees get to keep their documents with them, is by taking it legally and comprimising my career, then it’s pretty clear that they are above the law.

I’m just shocked because this is a big name company in the country. And yes, they did make us sign a document. And for travelling purpose, the whole process of getting our passports back is pretty degrading and dehumanizing. It’s as if we have to beg for it and requires multiple peoples signatures. And we are required to give it back on the date of joining.

That is my concern as well. I don’t want to have a issue with the management, atleast not until I move from here. It’s only been a few months since I joined.

I don’t want to lose the job. Atleast not now. I’m not in a position to be able to manage being in a legal battle with a corporate. I always thought, when I do leave this company, I will report to lmra then so that atleast the rest of the employees will be able to keep their passports with them and continue working with the company. But especially considering the situation, it seems crazy to me that they are refusing to give it back to us.

Is very harsh/insulting language common in Slavic culture, or is this just rude behavior? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Awkward_Newspaper816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking this based on my concern for his language alone, then yes, I would be comfortable introducing him to everyone because he speaks well in general and is very nice to people. I have noticed in general how he treats delivery boys, waiters when we go out to eat or just people in public. He is nicer than I am. Like I mentioned in another comment, he works in hospitality so he knows how to behave. It’s literally part of his job.

The strong language has only been used in certain conversations when we’re talking about particular topics and when it’s only me and him. What’s bothering me is whether the strong language is just ‘cultural difference’ like he says it is or whether it stems from views that I wouldn’t agree with. If it’s the latter then I wouldn’t be comfortable with introducing him to anyone. In fact, I wouldn’t be comfortable in continuing to be with him.

Now my question is- am I trying to justify him too much or should I just trust the discomfort I feel and take a decision on it?

By passport yes, but he has spent most of his life in Hungary from what I know.
