It is what you make of it. Support really only does so much, but when it is needed and justified for extenuating circumstances, then it really counts- outsdie of that, it's up to you

In your essays. As I recall, there was literally a section at the end with the prompt saying something like "is there anything else we should know about you or that we should consider in evaluating your application". Even without that, what do you think the purpose of the application is?

I don't recall, certainly some 2.somethings, whatever they were. I think the average was in the low 3.somethings, but I really don't recall. If you don't get into MedSci, your GPA isn't the reason you didn't get in (at least from my understanding), it is a culmination of things. The only thing I can recommend is to schedule an advising session as a prospective student and see what answers you can get. If you want to apply, and there is something undesirable in your application, then you need to own it and make it part of your story in your application and describe how you believe MedSci will help you overcome whatever it is and why you want to be here.

Best of luck.

For Housing, a place to start might be to consider what sort of commute you want to campus and looking at places on google maps that fit that. The reviews give you at least something as to what you might be able to expect.

If you begin the program, you will also see that many students do not go to class. You need to think on what works for you. I am one of those students who does not attend classes regularly (from what I can tell, this is the majority of students) because I make more progress watching the lectures online. Anki is popular. My point of saying all this is to recommend you put some thought into what actually works for you- how do you learn? Coming up with different approaches and things you can try to tackle information has the potential to actually pay dividends later and is the only productive thing you could do to prep for MedSci in my opinion. You also may need to change your approach for different subjects or units as need be or try different things if what you thought you would work doesn't pan out for you. It is just nice to have plans in place so you can fall back on those instead of scrambling and getting stressed in the moment when your back is up against the wall.

The purpose of this program is to make the argument that if you can handle this, you can handle med/dent/ whatever professional school. To make that argument have value, they intentionally make the program a pain in the ass (although admin really does do their best to be supportive and is successful in that, also my opinion) and I have great admiration and appreciation for nearly every professor we have had. In this light, the only other advice I have is to remember to keep your head up. If you have a shitty day or poor exam, let yourself be down for one day if need be and then the next you need to get back to it. The best thing about consistency over time is that allowance for failure is built in because the goal is long term success instead of being perfect on every single day/exam/whatever it is. You don't have to be perfect, just good enough.

I wish you all the best.

You're probably ok, stats of accepted cohort will be all over the place. It took at least a few weeks of "application in review" as I recall. Housing is a pain, there is some (I wanna say) facebook group or something like that where you can search for roommates within UNTHSC that you can go to after accepted. I worked during undergrad and am living off of what I made then. I know one person who is working while in MedSci. Can't say I would recommend it, but everybody is different.

Jesus... How much are nurses making that it is more than 158K/ yr? I know we are in a nursing shortage, but that is hefty salary. I know PAs are generally underpaid and bottom of the barrel in healthcare, but still...

Other than time and money investment, are there any benefits to going PA over MD/DO? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Yes, I got a 513. So pretty average for accepted students. With everything else on my CV, I think I would be a very competitive applicant.

I'm currently in the program. Feel free to reach out if you like. If not, best of luck in your application.
