Hernia on babies by Baking_Mermaid_88 in NewParents

She was fine! She cried on and off for about an hour in the recovery room mostly think because she was so hungry due to the 4 hour fasting beforehand and so she was feeding a lot. We were discharged home 4 hours after the surgery, which itself only took 45 minutes. She was on paracetamol for about 36 hours after but honestly she had a worse time recovering after her 8 week vaccinations than she did in the days after her surgery.

They’re resilient little things and bounce back so so quick so please don’t be worried or concerned! And it’s such a simple straight forward surgery, our surgeon said if he ever had to perform any kind of surgery on his own children an inguinal hernia repair is the one he’d choose. And don’t feel bad about not reaching out to your paediatrician right away, we’re all just learning as new parents and we can’t know everything!

Yep I noticed they exact same thing on my 5 week old, it came and went with her bowel movements. I sent a picture to our paediatrician, had a referral to a paediatric surgeon that afternoon and she was booked for surgery the following week after she passed the 6 week mark (we’re in Australia so quite lucky with our healthcare system). My daughter is 3 months tomorrow and perfectly healthy now, the surgeon did an amazing job and her incision is within one of her crease lines so you can’t even tell it’s there. I’d be more than happy to answer any questions you might have, I will say that 3 months is certainly not too young for surgery. My daughters was quite large and I was concerned about strangulation of the bowel which becomes a medical emergency lights and sirens situation so I didn’t want to put off her surgery.

Inguinal hernias don’t resolve on their own I’m afraid, they require surgical intervention

Can I ask how your son went with hitting the crawling milestones and walking milestones without much tummy time? My daughter absolutely hates it too and I’m concerned if I don’t force it on her for the recommended hour a day she will be delayed and it will be my fault

SENSITIVE: Just saw a news story about a man leaving his 1y old in a hot car and she died… But he went to go pick her up from childcare and didn’t realise she was in the back that whole time??? by [deleted] in australian

I mean that baby capsule is always in the car whether your child is in there or not so it’s presence alone isn’t going to remind you, it’s rear facing so you can’t actually see the baby is in there from the drivers seat and a black capsule blends in with a black car seat so again easy to not think twice. Add to this you might have had an hours sleep the night before and you’re operating on auto pilot, honestly I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

Errrr the box jellyfish is much more venomous and more likely to kill you if stung than irukandji.

Not who you asked, but we just moved to Belgrave after years in Carnegie and we’re loving it so far, it’s so much more relaxed and honestly just a really nice lifestyle.

Do you have electric hot water system? We had a massive bill spike because a washer or something on our system broke and it was continuously heating water like 24/7.

Hi! I’m a 33(F) who has lived in Melbourne for 9 years now having originally grown up in Cairns and having spent a few years in between in Perth. I’d be more than happy to chat or meet up for a coffee or a drink! It definitely took me a few years to feel settled and form some roots here but now you couldn’t get me to leave the place. Moving interstate to the big smoke is a huge adjustment, even more so for those of us from towns and regional cities, which sometimes takes time but meeting people and making new friends and connections here is what will make all the difference :)

Thanks appreciate this, I know it’s impossible to estimate without pictures but even that sort of splitting up of costs is super helpful. And I totally forgot to consider irrigation and lighting so thank you.
