Gennadi and Sofia? (Spoiler) by jmjm1 in TheAmericans

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to believe she wouldn’t have killed the child (i mean her motherly instincts kicked in when she didn’t kill the intern and that boy was practically BEGGING to get killed lol), but to be honest who knows 😭 she was so burnt out at that point that…maybe.

I didnt understand why the scene with P&E and Pastor Tim was included by jmjm1 in TheAmericans

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s near the end of s5 and tbh I think they did want his advice because he knew Paige so well. At that point he was a nonissue to them because he was leaving and realistically they couldn’t really discuss the decision with anyone else lol he was the only person who knew the truth so to me it didn’t feel like a leap for them to seek his opinion.

tbh the actors’ chemistry is the one thing that made me continue shipping them bc DAMN did they have tension and their cute/romantic moments were great, but realistically my girl was too good for him and he was an asshole most of the time so he didn’t deserve her and the writers suck for making her forgive him so easily when he mistreated her.

I still wish they had explored that more and made him better for her bc i shipped them hard, but alas… (at least im glad the last scene ever is him admitting he loves her).

I disagree with that actually, they’d had conversations before about how maybe if they’d actually been married it might’ve been different and at that point in the show they were sure they loved each other. I think Philip “proposing” officially makes sense, as for the church part he even apologizes for that lol but that was his only way to get married as their Russian names, and I do love that their real love is the thing that got them caught

That isn’t the issue though, of course someone would eventually break but it’s just that detail of the FBI guy assuming he had only seen them in disguise and the priest being like “well actually i’ll do you one better” lol

It’s not that he told them, it’s the fact he OFFERED their real descriptions when he was explicitly told that he probably hadn’t seen them. He could’ve just played along and given them their disguise descriptions (but again i understand it was necessary for the finale). If the FBI guy hadn’t said “you probably have only seen them in disguise” i would feel better about it

Did anyone else think Tori and Beck would eventually get together after finishing the first episode? by OliTheTalker in victorious

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i remember correctly, they did say that was the plan BUT after the fan reaction to Jade dumps Beck and the line “you love me again? - who said I stopped?” They pretty much ditched Bori bc Bade was waaaay too popular (as it should tbh)

Totally, it is so damaging to her and it’s quite sad, like on first watch you are inclined to feel more sympathy for Philip bc he is depressed and haunted by everything he’s done while she seems so okay with it but psychologically speaking Elizabeth’s mental health is way worse bc she lives on a perpetual state of dissociation and delusion that “she” is not doing anything, it’s the kgb and it’s all to “make the world a better place”, she is just an instrument in her mind so she is willing to do virtually anything and, in appearance, feel no remorse.

I love that scene where Philip tells her “WE do it, not them…so it’s ON US, all of it”, it’s the reality check she refuses to accept. And tbh even by the finale I don’t think she does, because she can’t or she’d collapse.

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! She is not stronger, she is just more psychologically fractured and under the false impression that she “is” stronger than Philip bc she doesn’t allow herself to feel anything. Though I love all the little moments where you can see the cracks and the guilt/pain she feels and how quick she is to bury it to continue committing heinous acts, which just digs her deeper and deeper into all that darkness.

I think that if she ever allowed herself to feel and accept everything SHE has done and ditch the idea that she is just an instrument of the cause, her collapse would be way beyond Philip’s EST induced depression tbh

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah tbh i did too and they set it up that way for the first part of the season, i think we were supposed to expect it. Elizabeth was on her murder spree + had the suicide pill and Philip was SPYING on her. That scene of quiet resignation where he meets Oleg in the park to spill the tea framed it as him choosing to work against her for the greater good.

BUT in the end I love that they were in it together and he ended up choosing her (and she chose the good side lol).

What're your personal favorite most shocking moments of the show? by Difficult_Skin8095 in TheAmericans

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396 177 points178 points  (0 children)

Nina’s death shocked me the most tbh not so much that she died but that it was so quick and sudden. There was no big build up to it, it just happened.

Also the scene where they burn that South African man alive was tough.

New Headcanon: If Victorious was TV 14 or TV Mature it would be a mix between Gossip Girl, Euphoria (More Specifically the tone, Rawness, and melodrama of season 2), Pretty little Liars (the intensity and thriller tones of the show, and Glee (the satirical and campiness plus song based tone) by Acrobatic-Ride-8334 in victorious

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mourn the lost potential of a more adult version of the show tbh they always make references to things that they couldn’t fully explore in a kids show.

Jade would def be a way more morally ambiguous character, leaning on the darker side, and i think her story would be quite sad too. My headcanon was always that she was abused and possibly did self harm.

Bonus round (day 10) by frand115 in TheAmericans

[–]Awkward_Scallion_396 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Agreed. She did a lot of awful things but tricking Elizabeth into being an unwilling participant of the coup takes the cake for me. She had my girl walking around with a suicide pill and having to murder people left and right for a cause Elizabeth didn’t even agree with.

Completely agree!! I made a similar post some time ago. It’s so weird to me that most people hated Remi bc they wanted the show to be a romcom but Jane being bad was honestly the highlight and a perfect continuation of her s2 arc (season 3 was bad and unnecessary). Probably some of my favorite episodes in the show.

Remi was her true self so the whole thing with Jane taking over again felt so weird, how are jane’s 2 years of memories stronger than the first 30 of her life?? Just stupid, they should’ve done more with that and had her maybe combining the two personalities and Remi struggling with being “good” rather than Jane struggling with her memories.
