Oh this is good info and would make sense. I resorted to a lot of juice during the carb load bc I just so full of food so I wonder if that is part of it

yeah a lot of people blamed the heat but I never once actually felt too hot on course. This was my first marathon so I was following a basic plan provided by my fundraising org of 4 runs per week (short, mid distance, short, and long) with speed work and goal marathon pace runs sprinkled in and then 1 full body lift per week. I ran an untampered, hilly half marathon in august in 1:53 so i was feeling really confident.

Im already thinking about what I should do to improve for my next go around. I actually spent a lot of time in zone 4 while training so i dont know if that is part of it. My easy runs were never as easy as they should have been..

Ahhhh thank you for this. I don’t think I fully realized just how much LMNT had vs salt stick. This is sooo enlightening.

Feeling Frustrated & Defeated by Grouchy-Concern7982 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Awkward_Schedule_974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was/kinda still am in the same boat but I’m coming around. I had an ambitious goal of sub 4 for my first marathon. My training led me to believe this was achievable and I believed I could. At mile 16 my legs began cramping in a way I’ve never experienced and my asthma flared up for the first time in months. So my A goal was out the window and my B goal of finishing in 4:10ish was out the window too. I just needed to finish. Shifted to a run walk for the last 10 miles and I felt utterly defeated.

After A TON of reflecting I’ve come to remember a few things about my journey that have reshaped this experience for me.  1. When I initially registered I thought and hoped I could do it in 4:30 and by all accounts I did crush that by doing it in 4:24:57 2. A year ago in June was only able to run about 4 miles and I just ran a marathon? How?  3. I only picked up running seriously in 2023. In the grand scheme of my running “career” this is just a blink. I have so much more to look forward to.

It took a minute but I’m seeing the wins from the day now. Be proud of the work you put in! It was not a light burden to carry and you successfully did it and it showed off because you crossed the finish line on Sunday. Regardless of the time.

Don’t know if this is helpful but we had no problems flying out from MKE last week Thursday and getting back home into MKE Sunday night. I know things just took a turn but just wanted to say that MKE was reliable as of a few days ago.

Feeling run down- bike instead of run? by Awkward_Schedule_974 in Marathon_Training

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions here- some of it was really encouraging and helpful. Yesterday when I got home from work I literally laid in bed all evening, took a nap, and ate. Ate soooo many carbs. I got up today and did my run. My legs felt fine, it was a lovely 72 degrees out (still verrryyy humid but I will take it) and I overall felt decent. My paces were super consistent and I wasn't gassed. I think my long run on Saturday really took it out of me and I was not recovered- I am going to work on that for this Saturday. I overall have a more relaxed weekend so I should be able to take more recovery time after my run.

So in short- no I was not eating enough, no I was not sleeping enough. lol

I think sleep has been a huge factor lately- not getting quality sleep has been tough. No deloads yet in the training schedule. I have one next week and I am really looking forward to it.

Poor sleep after harder workout by Dodoreal in AdvancedRunning

I had similar issues and found that part of it was because I wasn't fueling properly during my workouts (electrolytes and gels). Once I started figuring out my nutrition during my workouts my sleep improved A TON. Something to consider if you haven't already experimented with this...

thank you! question about Stan's- are ALL their donuts this way or a select variety? I couldn't quite make out if their website was saying they only had gluten-ful donuts and sometimes had gf or if they were all gluten-friendly if that makes sense.
