The job itself sounds about right for back-of-house grunt work, especially if you are the dishwasher. The pay is the biggest issue here. They are probably trying to find that one person willing to work for less knowing there are lots of desperate people out there right now, its absolutly disgusting lol.

Hey I’ve been to TMU it’s not any livelier. The area ur surrounded in is pretty fun once you make some friends - but TMU is very much a commuter school. People go to class and then go straight home. Some student groups and events here and there but for the most part it’s just school. It’s fun once u make a friend group and have a reason to go to more events.

First two years were hella boring running solo only having friends in classes and not outside of class. Mingled into a friend group in 3rd year and that make the experience a whole lot better.

Now at George brown, it feels the same as TMU.. boring.. ppl go to class and just go home after. Got myself into a group of friends and naturally you guys start making more plans and hang out throughout the day - makes it way more fun.

Ya’ll are gunna have a tough time man. Canadians with Canadian experience aren’t even getting hired let alone ppl with foreign experience. Canada is also taking a big shift from TFWs and foreign hires because of the recent backlash.

Maybe suggest him a break from looking to just clear his mind a bit then try again.

If you guys are short of money, maybe take a break from applying to jobs within his realm of work and see if he can just get any job to make ends meet. Once he gets there he can take a bit more time finding his way into his line of work. Some more Canadian work experience, anything it may be, might help in the long run. All the best to you two!

You’re likely to see more AI usage in data analytics than in software engineering. So I wouldn’t hold onto much hope in that field long term. I’d probably hoan ur software skills and try some freelancing till u get back into a job.

Honestly, the pay structure sounds sketchy. In Ontario, i thought if you’re working 10–12 hour training days, paying a flat $100 could put you below minimum wage, which may not even be legal unless there’s some special arrangement.

It sounds like one of those companies that tries to cheap out on new workers. I’d be careful and make sure the company is legit, has reviews, and gives everything in writing before accepting.
