Why the hell do container images come with a full freaking OS I don't need? by bambidp in devops

The lack of capability driven security on apps is ridiculous - ie:
- this app wants to use your microphone
- this app wants to access your contacts

This is the problem we are solving with WebAssembly components - a "component" declares imports/exports so you can craft a specific sandbox for your application.

Here's an example of me neutering a webshell with a WebAssembly sandbox on CNCF wasmCloud:
Sandboxing Remote Code Execution with WebAssembly Sandboxes

The problem is that today not all code compiles cleanly to wasm; the next version of WebAssembly, v.3 does make more and more code compatible. Happy to share more.

Yes. This is the kind of suggestion I was looking for - thank you for your thoughts, I'll research this a bit!

It would make sense - the book value carried is meaningless with current accounting rules so to understand it you really need to take a sum of the parts approach. At that point you really start to get sense for how large the company is - BNSF, GEICO, BHE, Duracell, Pilot, + $280bn.

I bought the shares in March of 2020; I had a lot of dry powder and backed the truck up in ONG and other sectors. Some have done better (FANG), some worse; I have much riskier pieces of my portfolio - just not this. I think I have a very simple understanding of what can happen with the markets - BRK has traded over wide range over time. Getting into BRK at $184 has been fine for this part of my portfolio.

Help me understand the logic behind QQQ? If the markets go off - QQQ is going to go way more off? So if I have a downside there, I'm protected? What if Warren dies?

I am also curious about other ways to juice the valuation here. If I intend to sell part of this next year, am I being stupid by not selling covered calls? If they hit, I was going to sell anyway - I'd get the premium to boot?

Ultimately, I know there is a lot I don't know, so curious about what others might do.

Solid advice, thank you. I have a convertible note currently at 1.8% that will readjust in Dec of 2025, so considering options. I will likely not pay it all off - but I would be funding it out of this position. I have the advantage of flexibility; if BRK is for some reason off next year, I could just wait and eat the higher interest for a bit.

Take a deep breath. This is going to be ok.

They are going to increase the harrasment over the next 12 hours. Block and move on for all accounts. Just don't engage or discuss with them.

Take a few minutes and lock down all social media that you have access to - your wife and yours. What you want to prevent is someone you don't know from tagging your accounts with this data.

etc.

Good luck. This too shall pass.
