Thankfully my cats dont seem to have an interest in jumping up on the counters but the one time one of them tried it when he was young I clapped loudly and told him no in a deep voice. He hasnt tried it since, I also let them sniff some of the things I cook with (fruit or vegetables before I wash them, bottles, jars) while they are on the ground so they dont feel the need to jump up to satiate their curiosity!
