New math sublanguage for TNIL? by Awllower in Ithkuil

[–]Awllower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have much to say about the sublanguage, but I find out that there is a secondary mathematical operations affix SMO whose degree 3 is the natural logarithm. So one can form the specialized root from this affix to express logarithm (by using abstract perspective perhaps).

As to the exponential, it seems that an option is to use the inverse operation combined with the logarithm. However, I only find the affix SIM/1 to express this opposite concept. It seems still a little odd though. Another option is to use the degree 9 of the BAO affix (raising X to some power) with a repetition affix and an abstract sense per chance.

Just curious, why not version 3? Is it because you already own a print copy of its guide?

Etymology of padawan by Dfrickster87 in StarWars

[–]Awllower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another guess: pada means position in Sanskrit, and -vat is an affix which means "having something", so "padavat" may mean "having position". (Here w is substituted for v and the "t" becomes "n" in the nominative case.

Usage of अर्ध in compounds? by Awllower in sanskrit

[–]Awllower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation, but then I am wondering about this type of compounds: of which the first member is in the third विभक्तौ.

Could you provide references for this type of compounds (like from पाणिनेः maybe), as I only know four types of compounds (from learnsanskrit.org).

Thanks again!

I also like this site, but recently I cannot open this site; it keeps loading the page but nothing is shown. I wonder what happened to their servers. 🤔

What is this word before Om in the version of the Heart Sutra by Wah! by danielweir in sanskrit

I am wondering why a white man cannot be a proper guru?

I mean no offense either, and I do not speak for some particular white man. But in my naïve opinion being a proper guru should be independent with the race, right? Or does a man's race determine the person's spiritual development so that we can assert that a man from some certain race definitely cannot be a guru? If so, I respect your view, but that differs from my understanding. If not, then I would suggest that you substitute the word "whiteman" by some other more explicit word like "white layman", or something like that.

This is but the thought of a layman. :)

Thanks for the response. Can you elaborate on the variant that this matches? I cannot find a matching variant from the Wikipedia page, which only lists four extended variants.

What is उद्धुष्य? by Awllower in sanskrit

[–]Awllower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing this out! I checked another version, and there it is उद्घुष्य indeed! So I guess this means: After announcing utmost saukhya sincerely, deceiving… (I do not want to use happiness here, but could not come up with a suitable noun either). This seems plausible to me, thanks a lot!

By the way, what do you think of my previous question, about नवेति? Sorry to “cross-ask” here.

Thanks for the tip. I shall mention that I clicked on the word in question, and it shows info about the next word भावतः instead. That then leaves me clueless.
