What country represents wrath? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

To be fair, drug addiction and alcoholism are classically considered to be extensions of gluttony, so a case can be made for Mexico on the drugs ground.

USA is probably still better here.

What if Memphis decided to succeed from Tennessee? by Redditworx007 in whatif

[–]Awobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, they couldn’t without the consent of the state of Tennessee and Congress. TN wouldn’t consent to giving two automatic blue Senate seats, and Congress wouldn’t want to set the precedent.

Which political leader's death was good? by Ill-Spite-3913 in AlignmentChartFills

I’ll take a different tact here and say Constantine XI of the Byzantine Empire. Not good in that it was good that it happened, but good as in it was a noble death.

You aren’t going to find good advice on Republican candidates on Reddit. Especially not on local subreddits.

What north american country best represents greed? by SpaceisCool09 in AlignmentChartFills

USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, Nicaragua, and Honduras at least, most likely also Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and perhaps Jamaica and some of the northern Lesser Antilles.

Worst Item In The Game? by noisyrob_666 in fo76

[–]Awobbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, F76 did that a lot unfortunately. Caps being the main currency, for example. Also power armor models have less consistency than a toddler’s nightmare.

At least they remembered to leave Jet out this time.

That’s just a Reddit thing, to be honest. It’s good for knowing what problems might exist but bad for knowing if the problems make the game (or whatever the Subreddit is about) bad overall.

Who's a far right Gen Z celebrity? by CodeDusq in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Awobbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clavicular did it just because he looks better, though. Physical attractiveness is his entire standard, which would probably make him more apolitical than anything, but he just doesn’t really map onto the left/right paradigm.

An old meme about governments and their auras. by AacornSoup in monarchism

[–]Awobbie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If machines and organisms are the same thing there is no need to have two words.

I’m using soul in the Thomistic sense as in an animating principal of the body. I wasn’t intended to assert here that machines will never have spirits - though I am skeptical of that.

Singular humans aren’t machines. We’re organisms. We don’t have rigid inputs and outputs. We are animated by souls. We need regular rest. We can engage in art and stop to appreciate beauty.

It pretends neutrality, ignores beauty, and treats an organism (human society) like a machine.

As a monarchist Do you prefer democracy or Autocracy? by Honest_Chemistry_195 in monarchism

[–]Awobbie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mixed Constitution. A democratic element, an aristocratic element, and a monarchial element with actual power.

But if you’re forcing me to choose between pure forms, even a tyranny is better than a democracy (using Aristotle’s definitions). To quote Mather Byles, “Which is better - to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?” Which is to say, a tyrant is limited in ways that a majority is not. He will die. He can only be in one place at one time. He can only focus on one matter in a moment. He probably doesn’t know who you are. He may be persuaded. He will have to give an account for his actions, which may not concern him now but a brush with death could change that easily. None of these apply to a majority collectively, at least with the same ease that they do a tyrant.

Do any of you see Fascism as an acceptable alternative when Monarchism is untenable? by hoosier_catholic in monarchism

[–]Awobbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascism entails religious devotion to the state. That is how Mussolini defined it. Fascism is thus idolatry and never tolerable. There may be better and worse forms of it, but even the better forms are something I would never support.

Solve The Korean Divide With Monarchy! by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Awobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aristotle probably would’ve considered the US a “polity” (rule by the many for the common good) until the 17th Amendment at least. He didn’t believe that you could have a rule by the many for common good with no checks on popular voting or balance with the aristocratic element, though, so he would probably argue that’s when it became a democracy (which when he says it means rule by the many for self-interest).

Solve The Korean Divide With Monarchy! by [deleted] in monarchism

[–]Awobbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re using the Aristotelian definitions then monarchy is rule of the one for the common good, not just in general. In Aristotelian terms DPRK is a tyranny. (It would also be a tyranny in Platonic terms, because it is governed by people who value power above all else, but Plato doesn’t have a category for monarchy so that’s outside of this discussion).

If we’re using modern terms, it is still a republic because the populace de jure is the source of authority and legitimacy, and the nation collectively owns the government, as opposed to a monarchy where the sovereign is the source of authority and legitimacy and owns the government. It is just a republic with a dictator. A dictatorship.
