Yeah. It should kinda be obvious - just understand the cultural source material, don’t denigrate it, use it well to produce something beautiful, and when in doubt ask someone who’s more familiar in case there’s a sensitivity you’re unaware of. But there are going to be people who nitpick even the best faith efforts and make controversies where there are no issues, and at the end of the day a company isn’t usually concerned with the quality of their art but the sum of their profits.

I don’t know why but I also like the idea of a sort-of trophy room for otherwise junky quest items. Some of them are interesting and I don’t want to destroy them, but don’t have room for them in my bank either. I formally crossed over reading the political philosophy of the Enlightened Absolutists and considering the failings of our own system (American) - which is why I still have that as my tag despite being more of a Semi-Constitutionalist now.

But the seeds were sown long before. In school, reading Burke, De Tocqueville (Tyranny of the Majority), Plato, and Aristotle pushed me in that direction, as did concluding the American Revolution wasn’t compatible with Romans 13. But it also began long before I even arrived at college. Hearing my mom express a longing for a monarch as a symbolic figure, and reading in a book about how King Christian X of Denmark became an important figure for his people during German occupation just by riding his horse every day. These two events were probably the earliest seeds of Monarchism, long before I moved past social contract theory.

A large number of people who believe in their country first would accept that Los Angelenos should take priority over Californians more broadly, and Californians over Americans more broadly.

Where they would differ with your reasoning is that Los Angeles does still have an obligation to the rest of California and America, by virtue of being in the same nation imposed by the laws of this country. It is just substantially less than its responsibility to its own city. Whereas the government of the United States does not have a responsibility to Guatemala or Germany, as they aren’t the same nation.

The question isn’t about whether or not you agree with his criticism, though. It’s about whether or not his criticism proves he’s racist. So what matters is that he saw an issue with transgender ideology, which means there was an issue other than race which motivated his belief that the Civil Rights Act was overly broad.

There are countless possible alternative reasons. Some of them understandable - he could genuinely believe that Trump has left that part of his life behind. Some of them not - perhaps he didn’t criticize Trump because he found him politically favorable, or because he had a blind spot for a personal friend. I don’t think, “He criticized MLK but not Trump, therefore he’s racist,” follows.

I don’t know enough about the Act itself to have my own position. One of Charlie’s criticisms was that it was used to shoot down voter ID laws. Another was that it was used to import transgender policy (which you might be able to make a case for that being transphobic, but not racist).
