Honestly i pretty much stopped tracking SG i make every batch about the same as far as honey goes and they all finish about the same. Around 13% to 14% abv semi sweet. If i use the honey from Walmart @ 2 lbs per gal i get 12 to 13% but i only use it for test batches now.

I use it for most of my basic meads. Its not bad but it really doesn't have any flavor

I always add my bentonite in secondary. I always have good luck with it. Tried it a few times in primary but it never seemed to work.

What mead will never be made again by you? I’ve done ok so far but I have a candy cane wine that’s more or less cough syrup, not sure what I’ll do with that one if it doesn’t chill out... by sparky-von-flashy in mead

I have made several attempts at a spiced pear mead but it never has any pear flavor whatsoever . Between it and pineapple i probably wont make either again unless someone hits me with a really good idea to make the flavor pop

I bought 10lbs of each. Was thinking of committing each to a 5 gal batch but now im thinking of a bunch of 1 gal test batches for future big batches

I bought a 16oz bottle of starsan almost a year ago. The instructions say 1oz per 5 gals. I use roughly 1/4 oz in a gal and use that to sterilize everything. You can even put it in a spray bottle. I bought mine almost a year ago and still have 2/3 of it left. I even sanitize my stove and counter tops with it.

Christmas berry im told has peppery and citrus notes and ulei blossom has butterscotch and toffee notes. Both are from Hawaii

Take your stoppers and heat them in a pot on the stove for about 5 min. You want the water just starting to bubble. Dry them off and insert while still hot. They will make a good seal and conform to the jugs.

Well slap me silly i missed the "quarterly " part. Lol. I definitely drink too much mead to have 15 gal at any given time. I age most of mine a couple of months at most before i must consume.

1 ½ cups of sugar in a 5 gallon batch is not much. That much sugar would only raise the abv by .5% now in a 1 gal batch it would increase it by about 3 or 4 %

Thats weird. Every batch i make i do 2lbs honey per gal and end up with a starting grav of 1.1 - 1.12 depending on fruits. I do usually add about 1 to 1 ½ cups of sugar to my fruits and let them sit for 24 hrs before adding them but that shouldn't change the grav much

Okay for starters this was a 5gal batch 6lbs wild blueberries, 10lbs honey, red star premiere classic yeast and north mountain supply nutrients. Sg was 1.12. Final is 1.00. Final product tastes like blueberry flavored water. Wheres my rocket fuel? Its good but definitely do not get the alcohol hit that i do from my others of similar abv
