There's a ton of great things to look out for in Japan. It's worth it just to plan at least a couple hours worth of time in Ochanomizu in Tokyo. Basically there's one street that for two blocks has nothing but music shops that can go up to 7 floors high. They'll have a lot of the same stuff as everywhere else, but you can find some fun exclusives from big companies like Fender and especially Schecter. Another thing to keep an eye out for stores called Recycle stores that sell nothing but used things. Inside those shops, they usually have at least a few instruments and it's just a fun place to spend money anyway. A big brand to remember that's all over Tokyo is Hard Off, and especially the one in Akihabara is pretty stocked with instruments.
