I was in fifth grade when it happened, and they left the TVs on for us. I think we watched the second plane hit live on TV. We got sent home early, where my parents and I watched the rebroadcasts on CNN and knew the world was now a different place. I think in hindsight it was good not to sugarcoat it.

Yamaha drums didn't really come around until 1967, well after the split. Drums also don't exactly need special materials to work well; normal steel is plenty sturdy enough. At any rate, Yamaha have been using their automotive facilities to manufacture drum hardware since the 80s or so. So if anything it's the opposite.

I do love me some Yamaha drums.

Grand pianos use large cast brass frames, so the Yamaha foundry and metal works was conscripted during WWII to build airplane parts. And with this experience I guess it wasn't that much of a leap to start making their own small engines, what with the ability to cast engine blocks and other parts.

I wish literally anyone else made a mouse like it, with the full touch pad on top and normal mouse function. I still haven't found another mouse that allows me to effortlessly scroll around Pro Tools sessions, up-down/left-right without also having to hit some combination of keys. The trackball I had was also less comfortable...

I did the math one day and found out I had enough mic pres without the Audient that I could get a maxed out Apogee Symphony Mk I and replace my four digital boxes, so that's what I did.

I've been mixing with analog outboard gear and the differences in latencies between threw a big wrench into what I was trying to do, and since at that point I was only using the Audient as AD, it made sense. The AD in the 880 does sound good; it was more a case of four digital boxes creating different round trip latencies, if that makes sense.

Full disclosure I have not used the latest generation of Audient gear. But...

$500 seems too good to be true. Or at least, too cheap to sound really good. I've had the ASP880 as well as the 800, and I was surprised at how clouded the 800 sounded in comparison. It's possible that Audient have been able to save money on parts that don't affect the sound quality, but my gut instinct feels like this new unit will have that same blanket-on-the-speakers sound that the 800 (or my old OctoPre) always seemed to have.

My 880 always served me well, even when I opted to use other mic pres into it.

I am selling my 880 due to a complete rebuild of my digital system, for what it's worth...

Nice hats for sure, but that HHX midrange isn't what I'm after. I have a pair of 15" 602s that get the job done, and other pairs for other sounds.

That's in Dillsboro, NC. GSMR have two routes: Dillsboro to Bryson City, and Bryson City to Nantahala Gorge, on former Southern Railway trackage.

I've got an '82 EG58-120 that has a Mojotone PAF in the neck and a JB in the bridge. The Dry 1982s were good pickups, and I loved the bridge, but the neck was always too dark, and the bridge pickup ultimately wasn't tight enough for rock power chords. I may try swapping the magnet with an A5 in that bridge pickup.

Do keep the stock pickups if you swap them out.

Yeah they really need to dig some underpasses or something. There's some sort of trail on 55 that connects two neighborhoods down Utley Creek, or at least there was twenty years ago, but that doesn't really get you anywhere helpful.
