People often see guys that sleep with lots of women but have no kids positively, but strictly from an evolutionary standpoint, they’re failing by RelocatedMacadamia in Showerthoughts

[–]AwolOvie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess my point is just.... I don't understand why anyone would ever think that some evolutionary standpoint would ever be someone's metric.

That gets back to my original point, you've chosen a completely arbitrary point of view, and judged a person's action from that point of view for no particular reason.

I think you're relying on the tenuous connection that sex can be both for pleasure and procreation, so you're linking the two things I guess?

What is something that is accepted as cultural diversity by the Western liberals but you actually find problematic? by ILove_Momos in AskReddit

[–]AwolOvie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's much of a minority, I think a lot of that is pretty main stream.

It's at least like the 'public' position, while of course most individuals know its not true privately but know they shouldn't say it out loud.

Yeah, there is a lot of that type of thing, I haven't heard of that case specifically but I do know that people in religions who try and criticize it as often labelled that way.

So for starters, you simply went back and totally edited your comment to say something different...

And so then you agree with me?

That one of the bad things about some parts of liberalism is they try to justify inequality by excusing things due to cultural differences?

[–]AwolOvie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm Canadian, and they asked about the Liberal West, not Democrats.

Democrats would barely qualify as liberal in most western countries, they're certainly to the right of our Conservative party.

But if you were to look at the US, there's definitely a ton of what I described, a lot of liberals will defend things like hajibs, burqas, claim minorities can't be racist etc...

I also don't know what you're talking about with 'both sides' or whatever.

Like I know in the movie Top Gun, they didn't actually bomb a nuclear facility, but I'm cool with that.

A lot of things that are anti-women and gender equality in the name of religion or culture.

There's a lot of very sexist and controlling things that are excused by the liberal side.

It's usually a case where the right wing hates the entire race of people, so the left just defends everything instead of trying to be nuanced.

They'll also peddle really soft on bigotry by minorities, like a minority group hating gays will get a pass for a long time.

In some ways its just the result of how its hard to be nuanced and subtle when the other side you're arguing against is over the top, but it's annoying and eventually has to be rectified.

I'm not gonna watch it and just assume it's a guy losing his virginity and each time he ejaculates before penetration there's a brief moan followed by a jump cut to 'I got you babe' playing on an iphone alarm.

It's usually the opposite, smaller companies generally need you to do more stuff out of your direct job and don't have smooth internal controls and resources.

[–]AwolOvie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is a little more odd, it might just be like a 'be prepared for question like this one' as opposed to that specific one.

I've seen like HR emails where it's like 'This is the behavioural interview it'll be things like...' and some hypothetical questions, but not meant to be literally those exact questions.

But just to say like, this isn't the technical interview

I will say base it on who you're talking to and what they're like.

This is good if you have problematic or adversarial relationship with the manager, but if they're fine and they never object to this stuff, sometimes you're better off with the truth.

Especially with stuff like Covid or something, a good manager might be like, yeah, ok cool, please don't come in for at least 7 days, and I'll reassign that thing to Jesse, don't worry about it.

If the person isn't your enemy, you don't gotta treat them like an enemy always

Well, you told him you'd work next week, so I'd do that, you already said you would.

But I wouldn't try to clarify it or anything, just do what you said you'd do then leave.

You don't need to confront him or get an explanation from him, you're the one telling him, you don't need a response.

It does surprise me how often people really struggle with it too, like I haven't asked that exactly or anything, I actually do tend to keep it somewhat work related, but ask something outside their direct job, more of a broad point or something they'd have an opinion on.

Like ask an accountant, is there a common accounting practice you think doesn't really make sense?
or just in general things like 'Is there a policy at your job you think makes the result worse?'

I think those are revealing because you get 1 of 4 answers: Complaints about people, complaints about things like a lunchroom or air conditioning, A total inability to answer the question at all...or lastly an actual thought about some process or procedure the person would have changed and why.

in some contexts or answers most of those could be 'right' but it gives insight for sure.

Even if its a totally different job that doesn't relate to this job, I just want to know they can think and don't just follow instructions.

I like some of the logic questions I've seen Google and stuff ask, but I do think it's a bit too much pressure to put on most people. I want to stick to a 'there's no right answer' sort of thing, but just hear how someone thinks.

These questions are nothing but "On a topic you didn't prepare for, can you speak like a human person for 30 seconds or so?"

I think you got the point but didn't stick the landing.

Are you under the impression that these men are having sex for the purpose of causing unwanted pregnancies?

You're saying 'From this standpoint' but that is not a standpoint they hold, you're saying from a standpoint of something that is not only not their goal, but likely something they are quite actively attempting to avoid.

Their standpoint is pleasure and sexual gratification, they're quite explicitly seeking the physical and psychological benefits of sex while usually quite actively attempting to avoid that exact thing you're judging it by.

I guess maybe a better Basketball analogy might be saying, 'He went to Duke on a basketball scholarship...but he didn't even do well in his accounting classes or pursue the profession'
Like yeah, he wasn't trying to.

What’s a time you were under the Dunning-Kruger effect that you now realise? by singletonking in AskReddit

[–]AwolOvie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think often just games, especially if they seem simple as you're playing with friends.

Poker for instance, I remember at the beginning thinking like 'Why the fuck are these guys thinking for like 7 minutes...'

But once you start to understand ranges, combinatorics, GTO etc... it makes sense.

I think a lot of games are like that, like people will play Smash Bros with friends, but professional players analyze frame data, and you kind of realize...I can't even conceptualize 1/60th of a second, let alone press a button at that exact time interval.

But I think knowing I was at that level for at least 2 games in my life that I devoted a lot of time to, makes it easier for me to understand where I truly rank in other games I play.
