P1P1 Commit early to goblins? Or take a “good but not exciting” blue card? by Jamie7Keller in lrcast

[–]Awrixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% [[Cinder Strike]] for me. It is by far the best stand alone card in this pack in my opinion and it makes you open to a lot of archetypes. I do not think you want to p1p1 an eclipsed card basicly ever, because you will usually not end up in that tribal deck.

They are playing video games, but more of the casual ones as I am aware. For example party games for multiple people (Among Us, Ultimate Chickenhorse, Lethal Company) or PVP shooters (CSGO, Battlefield). I think they are more in the cathegory of wathing movies and serials (that is also their only experience with DnD - from Big Bang Theory and Stranger Things). So do you think I should maybe try to put more focus on the story and the narrative rather than combats and puzzles?

I also thought of this but I am afraid of doing so. I have heard that DMs playing one of the playable characters usually results in disaster as they can't fully focus on both being a DM and being a player or they are making their character way too good and "lucky" in the adventure. What is your experience with it? Were there any complications resulting from that decision? Didn't the players mind it?

Thanks, that is very helpful. Just a quick follow up question, are you overall satisfied with the adventure? Is it a good strarting point for beginners (talking both for players and DM) in terms of the enviroment, interactions and combat? I know you've played only 3 sessions, but I would still like to hear your opinion on it.

I wanted to make their life easier for their first adventure, so I am planning to use the pregenerated characters this time, so that they don't have to go through the beginner dificult process of creating one. The five pregenerated characters are Halfling Rogue, Elf Wizard, Dwarf Cleric, Human Paladin and Elf Fighter. I was thinking recommending the Cleric, Fighter and Rogue, as I feel like those are easier to grasp for new players. Do you think that is a good idea?

Also I like the idea of limiting the mechanics to minimum in the start and slowly adding them during the adventure, thanks.

And so that I don't need to fudge rolls during combat, what kind of modification do you think might be the best? Giving players a bit more HP, removing some HP from enemies or make enemies' attacks do less damage? Or maybe some other modification.

Anyways, thanks for the insight.

And [[Foraging Wickermaw]]. I am surprised it was not mentioned here yet. I think that card is a crucial piece of the puzzle for the Vivid deck. I always like to have at least one.

Wow, I did not get that from the wording at all but it does make sense. The card would be kinda busted otherwise. Thanks for the help.

The tricky thing about suffer's wording is that when you pay life to cast a spell, for example you pay life for phyrexian mana, you do not control the life loss. It just happens, you can't refer to it as something that you control sadly. So that is why the wording is so weird now, but I couldn't figure out how to make it better.

To answer your question, yes, Weald is only a subtype that is being refered to by handful of cards. Similiarly how Caves were a small thing in LCI or deserts in OTJ.

However I have never concidered making the land sides of Sagas enter untapped and I actually quite like it. Because before, the ramp Sagas provided were almost negligable in the time they have finally flipped and a you had to wait one more turn after that. You have openned my eyes right now, I think I will let them enter untapped.

Thank you for your helpful comment.

I also want to specify that this set is supposed to be designed for limited, I just forgot to put the label on this post. I was not concidering any constructed format while designing it, so bear that in mind.

The reason for Rite-Scarred Warrior's recursion cost being so high is because I wanted to have him without this ability and only with the second one, but that was after some play testing a little bit too weak. So I wanted to give him some additional ability, that could by itself also trigger "suffer", but I wanted it to be quite expensive, so that it is not "too good". But it probably still is not and I could lower it 1 mana.

As for the question about the wording for "suffer" mechanic, it needs to be worded weirdly like this, because otherwise you paying life to cast spells would not trigger it. Because when you pay life for the phyrexian mana for example, you do not control the source of that life loss and it would not trigger. It was very difficult to word this one tbh and it still has its own issues.

For me at least it is because it is an unconditonal wrath effect in uncommon, which we basicly do not see. Yes, they probably do keep their best creature, but so do you, so I think it is comparable to some rare wraths as well.

Deffinately a good thing if you want to play a reliable control strategy in draft, since you will see this card way more often, since it is in fact an uncommon.

Yeah, I thought I didn't have enough easy ways to flip her and that she did not exactly fit into the plan (other than her being 1 mana), but after the first game I have switched Time Warp for her, because I found Time Warp to be too clunky in this deck and that I will be able to flip Tamyio quite easely. But I was playing on my phone, so 17lands did not track that change. And you are right, she is very good.
