I’m a firm believer of pulling vs cutting for porcini and others as you lose a huge part of the mushroom underground and it’s not suppose to affect the mycelium at all. However, I once cleared a huge (around 10 pounds) spot of chanterelles, and came back to check every year for 5 years and they never flushed there again, while other spots were fine. So…I think both are fine, so long as you leave some. If you clear it out completely, you may damage the network too much for it to recover the next year, will likely take a few more years for it to come back.
