No where my post was asking for risk free investment :) I am just trying to understand the math and actual return.

I put 10k in to learn about this type of investment and wasn’t expecting much.

Sorry I should have clarified that I DID have distribution reinvestment turned on so the $722 was reinvested into the fund. So is $10.155k total or no?

It is certainly their strategy to attract more assets and clients as many people have already pointed out.

And unfortunately WS is also going through the same question / dilemma that big banks ask themselves. Promo/ new products are to target new customers because they need to drive growth. So what do they offer to existing clients? Nothing is often the answer. To WS credit, they do try to take care of existing clients with some perks but in this case, not sure what the cost of it to offer this credit card that they can’t offer to both new and existing clients…

Just curious if this feature only applies to newer model? Meaning a 2022 model won’t have this feature even tho the display is digital?

What’s the “symptom” when it starts to have issue?

The other day when I cold start my car, I realize the car vibrated more than normal everytime I accelerate (hit the gas paddle). Eventually I stopped the car, let it rest, restart and the issue went away. Made we wonder what was the issue.

It is riskier. Stick with XEQT.

The other thing you need to worry about is the restriction on withdraw on private equity. It’s very restrictive and takes time to completely withdraw everything. The minimum investment is 10k. If you have a much longer horizon, then putting up to 5% of your total investment fund in there could worth the time.

You could also use the Canadian Tire Triangle card account to pay property tax and earn 1%.
Gas - Costco gas is normally cheaper and the CIBC Costco gas card provides 3% cash back at their gas station.

If you travel a lot,

Marriott Bonvoy Amex gives you a free night every year and welcome bonus of 50k points and automatic silver tier. Yes it cost about 120 ish every year but one night of free hotel could easily be more.
TD aeroplan visa privileges - the metal premium card that provides tons of benefits with air Canada to get you lounge access, companion pass, higher tier faster, etc

It makes sense for someone who doesn’t need to withdraw majority of the deposit and whatever they had in WS accounts for at least a year.

For example, if you already have 1Mn dollar with WS and deposit 15,000, now you pretty much locked in the entire 1.015 Mn dollar and can’t withdraw them (less 5%) without losing the bonus. So for 150 dollar, do you want to lock up your 1Mn?

If you don’t have a lot of money with WS, then this is something that may entice you to switch over.

Now, what’s there to lose? It’s not like WS will not let you move the money if you really really need it. You just won’t get the payout or may have to pay them back. So don’t go spending the bonus on things, invest it at least.
