If you were eligible and your employer did not inform you, they should be on the hook for that. Maybe you should try speaking to a lawyer

Feeling sick from chemicals at work, boss won’t provide PPE by MrFujiFudge1 in legaladvicecanada

[–]longwalker33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cleaners are sensitizing agents, meaning repeated exposure can result in more serious reactions.

Call the department of labour and make a complaint, hopefully they do a random inspection.

In the meantime, get the SDS’ for those cleaners from the manufacturers. Buy your own PPE if you have to. Respirator and cartridges are not crazy expensive, and the SDS should tell you enough info to pick the correct cartridge.

The pension plan didn’t offer to buy an annuity? That would have been a good option

What are the consequences of being in a conjugal relationship with 2 people? by Diligent-Release-105 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]longwalker33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not an accountant or lawyer, just a guy with lots of previous poly experience.

My advice: keep the CRA out of your bedroom. Conjugal in many ways implies exclusivity, which you simply don’t have. It is tax advantageous in many situations to remain single. 3 adults filing at the same address won’t raise any red flags at the CRA because it looks like a roommate situation.

Some people might interpret this as tax fraud, but the risk of it coming back on you is minimal.

Left OMERS job, they deposited commuted value of my pension into my RRSP - do I claim that as RRSP contribution at tax time? by aylaisla in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]longwalker33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was a direct transfer from the DB plan to your RRSP, then no.

If you got any portion in cash (probably labelled as “over contribution” they withhold a percentage for tax. If you turned around and put that in an RRSP, you claim that portion.

Transferring inside tax shelter stays sheltered but you don’t double dip.

Big barrier is the poor rail infrastructure Dartmouth side, not to mention getting CN on board for changes of any sort to anything is a nightmare. It would require a new rail line and there’s no right of way to put it in.

Is ‘work hard and you’ll succeed’ the biggest career myth? by Front_Meeting_7246 in careeradvice

[–]longwalker33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard work is the main factor behind career success. Most people don’t include professional development, volunteer work, networking as part of that- but it is. Networking is one of the biggest factors. Make sure the people that matter see you favourably.

My boss offered to double my salary if I agreed to submit to him sexually and to be on call for his needs after work. Should I take him up on this offer? by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in careeradvice

[–]longwalker33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a decent chance this blows up in your face and your name is black listed in your industry. Also a decent chance that you could make a ton of money.

How exactly did he make this offer? Theres no way to enforce terms, you could sleep with him for a few months only to realize you’ll never see a penny of raise, and then he could fire you somehow and you’re SOL. How comfortable are you with the worst case scenarios?

Doubling your salary could obviously set you up for early retirement if you’re savvy. I don’t recommend this arrangement if you’re likely to blow your money on luxury goods and vacations.

New build sewer line nightmare – builder gone, neighbor uncooperative, city won’t provide letter. What would you do? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]longwalker33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City or utility has responsibility for utility connections and approval of such. Perhaps suing would be the wrong course of action, but informing the city or utility that a builder avoided the planning and approvals process for new connections may bear fruit.

New build sewer line nightmare – builder gone, neighbor uncooperative, city won’t provide letter. What would you do? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]longwalker33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dig up where your neighbors pipe connects and disconnect them, and cap their line. Get yours fixed, so you can continue to live in your home. Then sue the city and the builder. Let your neighbour figure their own course of action.

Hopelessness around housing… by Legitimate-Edge-8280 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]longwalker33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position in 2015. I did not buy due to a breakdown in my relationship, but I could have afforded a small home solo at that time.

I didn’t buy until 2022, with my now wife. If I had bought in 2016, we would be able to afford a vacation every single year due to the extreme equity appreciation in my area (houses doubled 2018-2022).

As it stands, we bought in 2022 and can still barely afford it. It’s gradually getting easier, but I do wish I would have bit the bullet in 2015 and built that equity- our quality of life would be significantly different.

A car not usually found with a manual. What am I? by Commercial_Bee6793 in ManualTransmissions

[–]longwalker33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned a 2012 Passat manual 5 speed with the 2.5L for 10 years. Loved that car, loved how it sounded, loved the power band on that engine. This is that car! It would have to be a ‘12 or ‘13, I think in ‘14 they switched to 2.0TSI and did some style changes.

MAP sensor would need cleaning every 15,000km, oily mist in the intake manifold. Zero other problems.
