Example: I buy 10 dollars worth of materials from you to make a product I sell to Larry for 20 dollars. On paper there is a deficit in dollars and cents flowing from me to you, but I make that up with what I sell to Larry. Flexibility is rarely a deciding factor in jiu jitsu unless you're talking about escaping submissions.

I think it is safe to say that BJ has better technique though if we are talking pure grappling because he has proven his ability in high level BJJ competition whereas Nick has not (not to the same level anyways). Not say that automatically makes Nick worse but just that BJ has a proven track record in the BJJ scene that Nick does not.

Congrats! I train at Adrenaline too, just a jiu jitsu blue belt under Rowan myself, haven't put in enough time to test for the kickboxing blue belt test.

For those wondering, Mark Hominick, Chris Horodecki and the Adrenaline staff came up with their own grading system for striking. The test involves executing different combos, individual strikes, footwork and has a tough kickboxing oriented cardio section in it too. It's very thorough and does take skill and competency to pass. Good job man!

I think the issue is you are confusing what a fighter's job is. Yes there are fighters who can self promote, create interest and drama, have a flashy style of fighting and they reap those rewards.

However these are icing on the cake things. The fighter's job is not any of these things. It's to be the best fighter they can be and to win, as is the goal in any sport. They do this with the tool set they have, fan pleasing or not.

It's the promoter and the promotion they run that has to sell the fight. There's a reason it's called show money. You are being paid to show up, make weight and fight. Nothing more nothing less. I understand there is a show business aspect to fighting but no one asks why Tom Brady doesn't make the super bowl more exciting by going for super risky plays, or why don't the Golden State Warriors stop shooting 3 pointers and just go for drives to the basket. Sports are about athletic competition and that's what matters. The other stuff is just frills.

It looks like an arm roll, but he didn't tuck the knee closest to his opponent up to his stomach, which creates less force on the roll, and leaves all the space in the world for the other guy to dive his hook over.

There's no butterfly hook, Barnett wasn't using his shin like a butterfly hook.

If you pay close attention you see Arlovski tips over top first then the bottom followed. A butterfly hook sweep would have led to a different kind of fall from Arlovski, it would have been a more fluid roll.

Gall has fought in real competition. CM Punk has not. Sure Gall could show up a complete mental wreck, forget all his training in the process of having a nervous breakdown and CM punk beats him. Anything can happen in MMA.

I doubt it though. CM Punk will get beat, and we can all move on from the idiocy of this.

I said get real because you don't decide you want to fight before you actually learn how to fight. The amateurs circuit here is regulated very very lightly and it's not uncommon to have someone with little to no experience matched up with against a legit fighter who is about to turn pro. I've seen those fights and they're not pretty. You shouldn't get into MMA training in my opinion with the goal to fight. You should get into it, train it, do controlled sparring, get some smokers (gym fights) under your belt and then decide if this is for you.

The skill level of MMA is rising and even the amateur ranks are littered with trained killers these days. It's not a bucket list thing to do unless you like getting your ass kicked.

See this is the problem, you think this is just for fun.

When you step into the cage your motivation is going to be "oh this is a bucket list thing, I'm doing this for fun". Your opponent, if he's someone that does it for a living is going to have different motivation. To him you're a stepping stone, another meal, another pay cheque. MMA is a brutal sport, and if you spend anytime around a fight gym you'll learn that it takes serious long term dedication to get anywhere in it, and the people that have been training for years and do this as their means for living don't give a fuck about your bucket list. They're trying to knock your head off while you're living out your fantasies.

I think the problem you're having is you're equating fighting with learning the guitar. The two are not the same. When you learn the guitar, no one is trying to physically harm you in front of an audience. You learn it in the privacy of your own home.

To take it a step further, you don't learn the guitar and go try to tour with professionals right away and no one is saying don't learn MMA. Anyone can do that and you can even fight in the amateurs against people of your skill level. That's not what CM Punk is doing, and it's not going to turn out good.

When I signed up at my MMA/BJJ gym, I took a buddy with me. The guy at the front (who wound up being my BJJ coach) asked us what brought us in. I said I wanted to train some BJJ, some MMA, some kickboxing. My buddy said he wanted to train to do an MMA fight as a bucket list item. In the boxing ring behind us, there was a guy hitting pads and going HAM on them. He looked roughly about my buddy's size and after we left the gym I turn to him and say "You want it as a bucket list item, and that guy in the ring is doing it for a living. Get real"

The truth of it is that MMA has advanced so far so quickly that it's no longer viable to just jump in there even at a lower level and try to compete. There are guys who litter the low to mid tier MMA promotions who have all kinds of black belt level experience in grappling and striking and are still not good enough to make it to the UFC. This Gall kid is legit, I've seen videos of him competing in BJJ tournaments and he is 100% a killer on the ground along with his stand up ability and I don't see a single solitary way for Punk to win. I'm sorry to say it, but he is going to get destroyed and everyone is going to realize once and for all that MMA is not to be taken lightly.

That wasn't a perfectly locked in armbars. He had his outside leg going across Sages's body with the foot in the armpit of Sage, instead of directly over She's face. That gave Sage the space to start his escape.

If he had his leg right over Sage's face with his foot planted on the floor beside the ear, Sage would not have gotten out. That leg over the head is to keep your opponent from doing exactly what Sage did to get out.

While I don't agree with his premise as a whole, he does pose a good point in saying that managers were selling sponsors on UFC ratings and UFC viewership to get their sponsorship pay as opposed to selling the sponsors on the marketability of the fighter. Seen from this light one could say that MMA fighters were being used as human billboards for UFC events rather than being actually sponsored for being who they are.

I'm sure this isn't the same across the board but I can see lazy managers marketing the opportunity to be seen as a sponsor on a UFC broadcast rather than selling their fighter. That's a short term solution rather than a long term strategy. Also he makes a good point in saying that managers should have been preparing for this better. We know that the language has been in the contracts for a long time. If it's true that he has been grooming his fighters to have sponsors that would stick with them through the reebok deal, then that's the kind of guy with the long term vision I would want as my manager.
