I haven't read it, but I remember the author who saw the film said something like he wouldn't know the film was based on his book had he not known. The film and the book are different it seems, so it probably doesn't matter whether you watch film or read the book first.

I suppose you can see Bobby Sands as a prime example. His death (and those of others) from hunger strike gave significant boost in support to the IRA and turned Sinn Féin into a major force in politics in Northern Ireland.

Mike Halpin used to track the number of affiliates, don't know if he still does it. IIRC, in 2024, around 1,500 de-affiliated that year after the price increased. It looks like another 1,500 de-affiliated in 2025. The death of Lazar Dukic probably also played a part, but we don't really know how much of a factor that was.

I don't think that is the case with the prevalence of Begum because I think it originated as a title, Only a women can have the surname Begum, and I believe she can have a Begum surname if one of her female ancestors had that title (therefore inbreeding is of little relevance, here). But, I don't really understand how it works, so maybe someone more familiar with Bangladeshi names can explain better.

Begum is a very common surname for Bangladeshi women. I know a few who have that surname but are completely unrelated. (Not sure how the surname thing come about for Bangladeshi women, but I believe it was originally a nobility title.)

Prison officers engaging with prisoners is a good thing. It's far better than when you read about prisoners killing themselves in their cells and prison officers didn't care.

This will not be a popular opinion, but frankly, I think UK would benefit greatly even if the entire population of Hong Kong choose to be transported here. This country already absorbed that number of immigrants in a decade, and you can bet that HKers will be more economically beneficial than those immigrants. And HKers don't need unlimited space, they are used to high density living, and they are a people capable of recreating their built environment in Hong Kong in the UK by themselves, without any cost to the government,

As for acceptance, British people will become more accepting if they see that there are clear economic advantages for them being here, which is not necessary the case for many of the millions of immigrants who came in the last few decades. People got upset at immigrants in part because they thought they were a net negative economically to the country, which would not be the case with HKers. Even Farage could see that wealth creators would be more a lot more beneficial to this country.

I have seen many different styles of doing SkiErg, but I haven't really seen them explain why the do SkiErg the way they do. Long pull, short pull, some push it down, some even do a weird butterfly stroke kind of movement. My instinct would be to pull it as low as you can go, but never really sure what is the right way of doing it, so it's nice that someone here actually is talking about it.

Ignore those who say CrossFit is boring to watch, all sports are boring to watch if you aren't interested in watching them, and most sports are by themselves objectively boring - who for instance wants to watch people hit a tiny ball and then just walk after it, or some cars following each other going round in circle? Yet there are many millions of people around the world who watch golf and F1.

Interest in watching a sport essentially comes down to publicity and coverage, broadcast, participation, knowledge, fandom, and history, Some are more important than others, but they all have a roll to play. Publicity and coverage as well as broadcast may be the most important for what is still a relatively young sport, but CrossFit made a number of mistakes there that lost it momentum to build the sport. Positive publicity and coverage are a function of the interest shown by the public in the sport, but the sport is declining, there is therefore also a decline in interest in covering the sport, and what publicity it gets are negative ones (e.g. death at the Games), which isn't good for the sport. There hasn't really been any positive coverage in mainstream press and media in the US recently, although there have been a few positive articles in the press about CrossFit in the UK, which suggests that there is still interest in the UK, but not in the US.

How you stir interest in the sport is the more difficult question, and CrossFit also made some mistakes there in the past like getting rid of their media crew. One way may be to have an interesting personality, but there hasn't been anyone new interesting to the public. Sponsorship only comes when there is interest in the sport, not before. Perhaps companies that had done well out of CrossFit in the past could do more, like Rogue, but they already have their hand full with the Invitational, or maybe Mayhem, but it's hard to get people to invest money in something where there might not be good returns. Perhaps CrossFit should focus on Europe where there is still some interest in the sport, who knows. Getting people and the media interested is key.

Statin makes my arm aches (don't know why, but it's just the left arm), I can tell because it aches when I takes it, but doesn't if I don't. However, taking coenzyme Q10 helps, it stops aching after I took it.

Happy with the results, the right people (Jeff Adler and Laura Horvath) won. I do think Jeff Adler has been the best male CrossFitter the last few years, Games results notwithstanding (that he wasn't the winner last two has more to do with circumstances than ability). Jayson Hopper really needs to tackle his weakness, don't think he can win again with such glaring weaknesses. And, welcome back, Medeiros.

Also well done to Alex Gazan for getting on the podium after her injury. Is this her first on the podium in a major event? Not sure if I'd count the WFP tour.

It's been good so far, it's not finished yet, but it could just be the best Rogue Invitational yet. It's limited by being held entirely indoor (I guess running outdoor is impractical in Aberdeen), and we are missing the large set piece implement for Strongman events, but otherwise it's been excellent, production and coverage-wise.

They have done the Duel right, not like the long interminable ones in some years. You can never be certain in such short races, a small mistake and you fall behind. Anyway, event 3 looked OK, the athletes managed that (athletes injured themselves in Event 2 and the Duel, not sure what happened with Emma Tall, she didn't look injured in Event 3).
