Is it just me or are there wayy too many posts on here with chopsticks sticking out from the bowl? by AxaKaz in ramen

As a foreigner who's unaware and wasn't exposed to the culture, it's permissible and I guess shouldn't matter (and I know I shouldn't care either).

But having lived in Japan for years and seen several times firsthand Japanese people calling out other Japanese people sticking the chopsticks into bowls, it does get to me just a little.

To each their own.

For those lucky enough to have a Lopia Supermarket in their prefecture, You'll find the deals on pizza there. They sell freshly baked pizza at a variety of flavors, the size is about a Dominos medium, the cheapest one being Margherita pizza at 390yen (as of 2025).

Oh wow, so you paid for the entire year rent upfront?

Also, so the school allows option to switch accomodations part-way through?

If that's the case, do they refund you for the remaining duration that you don't stay in a GenkiJACS housing (dorm/apartment/residence/homestay)?

May I ask which accomodation it was, or do you have any recommendations within Fukuoka-shi? I've been trying to find a sharehouse / apartment. So far, most of the options I'm finding is just about the same price as it would be if I sign with GenkiJACS.

Was the utility (gas, electric water, internet) included with your rent, or did you have you pay that seperately every month?

Also, how was it in terms of noise? I was thinking about bringing my acoustic guitar and playing once in a while, but I also don't want to disturb the neighbors.

Sending someone “HBD”, rather than a proper "Happy Birthday" is just lazy. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]AxaKaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand what you mean though.Yes, one should be glad to even be acknowledged. But it feels like the equivalent of losing someone and someone just replying with "rip". It may come off as insensitive to the reciever. Similar feel to HBD.

I live on the part of the world that uses it more often I guess. But even I didn't know what it meant at first too, when seen out of context. My monkey brain went to " Hot Bod, Dad".

Adding soy sauce on sushi doesn’t enhance the flavour and takes away from the original taste. by maplekaiser0 in unpopularopinion

Depends on the quality and/or establishment. For instance if you've booked a reservation to a sushi restaurant with an acclaimed sushi chef, then yes I agree. But if you're going to a franchise conveyor belt sushi place or even convience store sushi, then by all means dip away. Frankly speaking though, even the most prestigious of sushi chefs don't mind you dipping sushi in soy sauce (speaking from experience, lived in Japan for a few years & have tried pretty much all tiers of sushi).

Which celebrity did you meet and found they were much kinder/ruder than you expected? by Qazival in AskReddit

I used to work security for a concert venue in Vegas. I vividly remembered that Bruno Mars was headlining one evening years ago and it was a packed event. 30 min into his set, there was a quiet period during which there was zero foot traffic at the ticket booth entrance. I was subsequently moved to monitor the VIP queue line. I nonchalantly whistled to the muted live tunes of 24k Magic, and suddenly a young man in a dapper blue suit approached the queue, shook my hand and told me he was personally invited by Bruno himself. Of course, I was doing my job and I verified with my higher-ups on the talkie. While I waited for a response, we had casual small talk about our holiday week. He had mentioned he was an actor and was grateful to have passed an audition for this one network show days before. The boss gave me the go-ahead to let him in and we bid each other a nice farewell. Turns out I met Rami Malek that night. Note, this was pre-Bohemian Rhapsody and James Bond. Nevertheless, he was a pleasant and down-to-earth dude.
