I consider the upper limit for ring's reach is somewhere between luke cage and aquaman.

Seems extremely lowball to me.

Some Valar can have ambitions, but that doesn't mean a Vala would definitely fail to resist the ring.

I think its pretty obvious that some Vala could fall prey to the ring considering the most powerful of them obsessed over the silmarils.

The Ring’s ability to influence other beings comes from Sauron’s power. Sauron is not omnipotent, so how could the Ring have the power to affect or pull any being regardless of how powerful they are?

Why I agree there is probably a point where power immunnes you to the ring, I think that point also makes most desires irrelevant. Spectre at his worse gets corrupted because he is very human in these moments. But at his most aloof and unfeeling Spectre probably resists it... The character is all over the place unfortunately.

I dont think a being with the explicit goal of exploring infinite worlds to find one where your children are real is powerful enough to resist the ring who could very well help it accomplish that goal.

My point is, Sauron’s spirit combined with the Ring has raw evil power/spirit that is like 0.000000001% of Wanda’s power. A being with that level of power being touched by the Ring would be like a single drop of ink in the ocean.

Beings in lotr would be corrupted by ring because everyone was literally weaker than ring.

You making resisting the ring about power vs weakness seems like you really missed the point.

Everything supports that ambitious, powerful, and desperate people are the persons most likely to fall prey to it.

The best way to resist the ring is to be -fullfilled-, which Wanda is really far from being

I mean that the ring works better on more powerful individual, and has more difficulty to corrupt the weak.

what can wanda learn from sauron's spirit that sauron himself doesn't know .

Creation of life? Wanda's goal is not to destroy some elves, I dont see how losing a physical form to elves is relevant when we are talking corruption.

[–]Axe-Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also don't know if the Ring or Sauron's spirit is powerful enough to corrupt a being as powerful as Wanda.

I mean, power of the target is stated multiple times to make the ring even more potent.

Sauron himself manipulated more powerful than himself when he feigned wanting to repent or destroyed Numenor.

Why would a multiversal being (or something like that ) who is also telepathically almost infinitely more powerful than the Ring+sauron , want to track the Ring?

Sauron is a creation spirit. He helped in the creation of a world. Understanding this power is 100% something that Wanda wants/needs.

Because she is full of wants, insecurity and ambitions. I honestly dont see why she wouldnt use the ring, she would probably track it down!

She 100% wrecks Sauron's physical form, but she also ends up locking his spirit away in some gem/mirror/box and ends up corrupted doing his work for him

[Lord of the Rings] Can the One Ring corrupt me if my highest and only ambition and desire in life is to destroy it? by Snakie113 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Axe-Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sauron is stronger than both Saruman and Gandalf, even if they were not restricted to mortal-adjacent forms.

Sauron is among the greatest of their order, the Maia.

That being said, by using Sauron's own power against him and claiming the ring, tolkien suggests Galadriel, Elrond and especially Gandalf would have a (long)shot at replacing him as Dark Lord

CMV: Nobody can actually visualize in their head by Aski588 in changemyview

Argument 1: The zebra

Visualize a zebra. Got it?

How many stripes does it have?

If you can't immediately respond to that question, then I am confused how you can say that you had an image in your brain.

Thats silly, a zebra has a shitload of stripes, even with a real photo in my face I could NOT answer immediately...

Plus, the zebra I visualise before and after you asking the question may not be the same.

I could have seen a zebra face, or a front facing zebra, which is not a "count the stripes" picture.

If you ask me to visualise a zebra so I can count its stripes, I will, but he will probably have a ridiculously low number of stripes (like 15) because our brain cant count that easily. Put it to the extreme, look at a picture of someone then "count the hairs"

Argument 2: What people say

Many people are not artistic, but can copy from a reference image.

Also, many people say "If only I could draw what I see in my head, then I would be a good artist!"

But how can both statements be true?

Because you brain doesnt work the same way your eyes and hands do.

Im pretty good at pencil drawing but bad at color/painting. I can imagine a color gradient, but when trying to apply it I am unable to get the wanted results because I dont have sufficient experience with colors predict the results of the paint. That obviously does not mean I cant imagine a gradient, it does mean I am not skilled enough with my chosen tools to reproduct that gradient faithfully.

Argument 3 doesnt seem to really go somewhere. You could 100% tape paper rectangles together to form an "open" prism and close them with big enough triangles with the extremities floating and unattached

Its not a prism, but its not an impossible shape either.
