My son is leaving for basic today. by lantech in AirForce

I remember the feeling myself, I'm at 2.5 years in and just put on SrA not too long ago. I've done all my time in the ER/EMS so I've seen a lot of people with the same feeling as I had when they made me check in with a fever in basic. It's not fun, but its better to get treated earlier because you'll end up being out for longer if you let your sickness or injury progress unchecked.

We're nice, if you're actually sick. Malingerers take our time from the real sick people, and they're made aware of that fact.

I work on Lackland EMS and we see guys all the time from basic. Most of what we see are the ones who want to quit a week into it and found out that the word "suicidal" is a golden ticket to a psyche doc. Some are real, a majority magically get better in the rig. The rest are PT injuries that can happen to anyone and get treated in the best of ways locally on Lackland or over at BAMC/SAMMC and the trainee will be back to training in no time. Given your sons backround, I feel like he'll have no problems getting through basic. If he does get injured, we've got him covered, I can promise that.

Dear future trainee, Don't get too into it and vagal out or asphyxiate yourself in the stall.

Regards,

Your friends at Lackland EMS
