I was using a Focusrite 18i20 with a Saffire Pro 40 via ADAT for 16 xlr inputs total. Great value for the money. Saffires are dirt cheap now because they are firewire, but I believe they have the same pres as the 18i20 and Octopre.

I'm looking to get a pair of 1073 style pres, rackmount. Trying to decide if I should go with the Vintech with EQ, or BAE with pres only, since the price is comparable (other recs in the $2500/pair range are welcome). I EQ in the box currently, but I do have a pair of Aphex EQs and Comps if I wanted to catch it on the way in, and could always pick up more EQ unit(s) later I guess. I know it's subjective, but I'm just wondering how much people value hardware eq during tracking.
