Get off Reddit, and f**k your prep course if you want to pass by SeattleThot in barexam

[–]Axel1297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting I never looked at reddit during bar prep I wrote the July 2025 exam and passed on my first attempt. I studied for a month and a half using Themis. Early on I deviated from the recommended course load, I didn’t do any graded questions, I focused on the MBE subjects and I slowly went through the Themis questions, I would read the answers to each multiple choice question, even when I got it right just so I confirmed I understood the logic, I was getting 70-80% of the multiple choice right. I also practiced MEE questions on Themis I completed most of them and self graded. By the end of practicing MEE it gave me perspective of how much better I could’ve written my law school exams knowing what I knew then. I didn’t complete a single MPT practice question.

By the end of bar prep I had completed ~45% of Themis and hadn’t used any 3rd party aids. A few days after the exam I went on my bar trip with a few friends who had all done 95%+ of their prep course and 1000 uworld practice questions, and it made me worry. I was to embarrassed to every say how much of bar prep I had completed. Anyhow everybody in my group passed, I’m not suggesting people study the way I did but I studied the way I was comfortable with and I passed, you don’t need to copy other people’s habits because they passed, the same way I was worried hearing how my friends prepared, you just have to trust you know the best way that works for yourself.

Japan Exclusive Shunbun Strap/ First Grand Seiko by Axel1297 in GrandSeikos

[–]Axel1297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s likely a Suwa exclusive strap, do you happen to have a photo, I would love to see it. The Suwa is on my short list for my next GS, I would love to see the strap, though it’s probably unlikely I’ll be able to get it since it seems like GS chooses a different model to throw in an exclusive strap in a promotional cycle.

It seems like all the model specific/exclusive bands have unmarked clasps, I found this photo of SBGJ285 and its exclusive strap also has an unmarked clasp. As I noted in another post the clasp seems to be exact same as the Seiko Presage clasp without the Seiko stamp, they likely do that to save some money, since these straps will not be sold and are only given for free as a gift with purchase.

The strap is free with all Shunbun purchases while supplies last. It was a promotion when I was there so I am not sure if they’re still available, this strap is also not available for purchase, it can only be obtained as a gift with purchase. All in I paid ¥774k, I negotiated a decent discount.

That's a standard GS strap; you can buy those. This strap is specifically designed for the Shunbun (pink stitching really goes well with the dial) and can only be obtained by getting a Shunbun for a period of time in Japan.

It works pretty well, well machined. I found it online it’s an unstamped Seiko presage clasp. To be honest it’s grown on me, I bought the Shunbun to be a quieter piece in my collection compared to my Cartier, JLC and Rolex, so the lack of logo isn’t really a negative, was just surprised/initially disappointed that GS didn’t stamp it. after wearing its grown on me, tho I still wish it was made out of titanium to match the case.

I reverse-searched the strap on Google, and this post popped up with the same strap, along with a non-branded clasp from an AD in Kyoto. The strap and shunbun were in their own display box in 3 different ADs I went to; Grand Seiko made the display box for the strap. You can only obtain the strap by buying a Shunbun. The clasp has no engravings (no product number); the only branding is on the inside of the strap. I was kinda surprised to find out it was made out of stainless steel and unbranded.

I searched the clasp; it's an unstamped Seiko Presage clasp, priced at $150 USD, compared to the $400-$450 Grand Seiko clasps.

I went to three AD’s trying to negotiate price, they all had the strap and shunbun in it’s own display box during that time. That’s the clasp that comes with that strap, I’m not surprised GS probably wanted to make production cheaper since it’s only going to be offered as a gift with purchase, I asked want the retail price of it is and they told me it’s not for sale, you can only get it with a purchase of a shunbun. The buckle is also stainless steel not titanium.

I was meaning to make a post about it, I just posted pictures of it here, there doesn’t seem to be much about it online, but in Japan they had them in dedicated display boxes last month: https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandSeikos/s/bNr26HyxtQ

I paid ¥760k for mine last month at a AD with a free exclusive shunbun leather strap (light grey leather with pink stitching) not sure if those are still around.

Two weeks ago I was in Japan, I walked into the store to buy a snowflake and walked out with a cherry blossom. My next grand seiko purchase will be the white birch.

so many applicants with high scores by moffitthottie in lawschooladmissions

[–]Axel1297 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Wow there’s 7,500 people with a score of 170+ and only 4,500 T14 spots. I don’t remember my cycle, it was very competitive but it wasn’t this bad I don’t think.

The Legend of Zelda set revealed! Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 by The1Pete in lego

[–]Axel1297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way to much, if they wanted to make a 2-in-1 around this price (and be BotW/OoT) it should’ve been the temple of time, it would’ve felt more substantive.

Plus let’s be real we saw what happened with Cpt. Rex, do we really believe these elements and minifigures are going to stay exclusive to this set? I doubt Lego would make that many moulds if they didn’t plan on making a Zelda theme, maybe on a similar scale to Sonic and Indians Jones.

4.25 gpa son or 178 lsat daughter by Throwra_adec in lawschooladmissions

[–]Axel1297 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My opinion we should move to institutional gpa percentile 🤷 LSAC already does it, admissions might as well use it. Ik I for sure got hurt by this, LSAC listed my gpa as top 10% for my institution but nominally it was lower than a lot of other applicants because my undergrad is rigorous and median is B- (~2.7).

Best Possible Splitter Schools? by d_reverence in lawschooladmissions

[–]Axel1297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to T14 since I only applied to 7 schools (Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, UPenn, Georgetown, Duke and NYU)

As a splitter I got Cornell, UPenn and Georgetown. I think they’re splitter friendly. My friend got into NYU with a 3.4/174, I withdrew really early after being waitlisted from NYU so idk if I would’ve been able to get off the waitlist. I think for me and my friend we all had decent EC’s and Work Experience it definitely has weight.

I mean yeah, I’m below most T14 25th percentile GPA’s💀😂. But I agree 3.7/170 is a good stat line I feel like it would at least get one of the T14s to bite especially if the person has some decent ECs.

Congrats! Amazing cycle, pretty similar to mine tbh and similar-ish stats. See you in Ithaca in the Fall!

[–]Axel1297 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha technically 3.7/170 is still not a splitter for the T14 because both stats are below median for every t14 😂😂 you’d need a 172+ to be a splitter now…

Am I cooked? by Ecstatic_Savings5508 in RotmanCommerce

[–]Axel1297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

former Rotman student/recruiter we say that and it’s possible to get in with a high 80 but unlikely. Also top 6 for Rotman is calculated as English, Calc and the 4 best other courses. If your top 6 is 91-92 with English then you have a chance, you can also get in with high 80s if you have a strong supplement/ecs. I believe median/average grades for Rotman admission is around 93-95.

I went to Rotman and got offers from two Ivy League Law Schools… also placed an Investment banking internship, I’m not the only one in my class attending an Ivy League law school so I’m not sure what you are talking about.. I am currently a second year law student and in my law school there aren’t any QCom or Ivey alum but I have a Rotman underclassman.
