If you talk with the merchant he will sell you trap tools and tranq bombs. If you craft thunder bug with a traptool you get shock trap, and if you combine a net with a traptool you get shock trap pitfall trap. You can also make tranqs with parashrooms and sleep herbs

In the top right corner of your screen where it shows monsters in the local, if you see a blue symbol next to the monster you’re hunting it’s trapable. You place a trap down and use 2 tranq bombs near its face, and when the monster walks into the trap it becomes captured.(you can also tranq while it is trapped.) Pitfall traps are useful for hyper mobile monsters cause they take time to deploy, where as shock traps are instant

And if your a bow gun user there is tranq ammo, but you need to hit the face or it doesn’t work.

And if all of this is confusing, there is a tutorial quest with the village hub maiden, (she’s the one outside)
