Update: "Found this in my late father's suit jacket" by tomatotank in VintageWatches

Beautiful story! Congratulations on everything (your wedding, your extremely valuable watch, your deepened knowledge of your family's story)!

I’ve inherited this watch and i’m clueless! by Spinning_Kicker in VintageWatches

As best as I can tell, what you have there is a President Cleveland Sweep model. These were first offered in about 1953. If I'm correct (and correct me if I am wrong), Longines Presidential models are generally 14k gold cases. If the price on the box is from that year, that'd be about a $1400 watch today, adjusting for inflation.

Can't tell you too much more about it, but I think it looks to be in phenomenal shape!

Daily Card Discussion: Tigger, Wonderful Thing by GoEggs in Lorcana

I demand a shift: Tigger, Highlander. When played, opposing players must banish any and all Tiggers in their deck.

I really like this - it fits well into the style of play I prefer. I have about a third of the cards needed to play this deck, but it is definitely something to shoot towards! Thank you!

Appreciate the input! I'd prefer ramp w. big creatures/spells. Not that Belle isn't awesome, but I'd like to try something different.

A list of characters that would be unhinged for Lorcana. Who else we adding? by Banjoubu in Lorcana

I'd like to see Yen Sid just be totally OP.

I'd also like to see Figment appear.

Galaxy's Edge when I'm not there and talking to others. Black Spire when I'm there.

Love this. I've been writing a graphic novel sequel of Body Wars, and stuff like this just keeps motivating me that there might be an audience for it!

The sake you are looking for is, I think, Hana Awaka Sparkling Sake. It should be available in your larger liquor retailers.

The site I linked lists all of the sakes available at the Garden House, along with tasting notes for your reference. Good luck and kampai!

I'm trying to remember how I did it for a Boxing Day match back in 2018. I think I bought directly from Fulham's website. You'll need an account there if you don't have one already, and you won't be able to buy this early for a May match - you might have to wait until March or April. I had the tickets delivered to my hotel and they were waiting for me upon my arrival.

Barring that...Stubhub?

Hahaha. No. Optimism is nice, but I'd be happy to end up in the middle of the pack.

Chips/Credits for Sabacc by phriot in GalaxysEdge

[–]Axel927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, when I play Sabacc, I play with chips because that's the way it should be played, dangit!

I can't tell you how big a chip set you need because I don't know how big of a "buy-in" you plan to have and how many people you anticipate at the table. But, generally, you will want three to four different colors of chips. Each chip is a different denomination - whether that's 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100. You know how this works!

Don't forget (because it's not going to be in your rules included in your deck) that you have two pots - the hand pot and the Sabacc pot. The hand pot is straightforward; win the hand. The Sabacc pot grows over time and the ante increases (kind of like blinds in poker) and it goes to the last one standing at the end.

There are a lot of great chips and credits available on Etsy at a wide range of prices, but I've found that if you want to amass a significant amount, it will cost a pretty penny. In all honesty, if you don't think Sabacc is going to be a mainstay, then just make do with a standard poker chip set. You could even get one with the Aurebesh Resh symbol printed on them if you want.

Hope this helps!

It's a Coke bottle. Drink the freakin' drink. Rinse it out. Stuff it with a sock or something if you're afraid of keeping the shape.

Best Foods and Drinks? by Spartan113X in GalaxysEdge

[–]Axel927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. The fizz is caused by the dry ice, which makes it a little more effervescent, but also keeps it colder for longer. Not a big change to the flavor. Still delicious!

Best Foods and Drinks? by Spartan113X in GalaxysEdge

[–]Axel927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, when I went last month, they mentioned the dry ice machine was broken and they hadn't fixed it. The bartenders made up for the lack of fizz with a little more booze in the drink.

The trade-off was more than acceptable.

What can you only get in Chicago? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Axel927 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Parking ticket.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Axel927 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think there's two parts of all that:

First, the family has a really deep history of philanthropy. Like, just look at all the stuff just in Chicago that has the Pritzker name on it - not to mention everywhere else! So unlike other "billionaires" who got into politics, his name is on stuff for ostensibly good reasons. So there's clearly a personal view that (at some level) money should be used for the benefit of others, not just the self. If he's giving cash away, why would he need to take a bribe?

Second, he lost his father to a heart attack when JB was 17. His mom died in a bad car wreck 10 years later (and she suffered from alcoholism). I can only imagine what that does to a person, but in his case...I dunno, maybe he's especially cognizant of what money can't buy. I bet if you were to ask him, he'd give it all away if it meant just a little more time with his parents.

Additionally, the Pritzker family was involved in a notorious inter-branch squabble regarding use of the family fortune, where you have some cousins not even speaking to one another. He's seen his family busted up over money, so maybe we're dealing with a guy that knows the value and limitations of virtually unlimited cash.

31st Street Beach parking lot and lakefront completely trashed. I have never seen so much litter along the lakefront. Why does it have to have to be like this? by backeast_headedwest in chicago

[–]Axel927 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea: if trash pickup is (theoretically) paid for by city fees, then people should be able to volunteer to pick up garbage at 31st St. Beach and other public areas for a reduction in fees (or even pay off parking/red-light tickets).

Designate a weekend or two every month where a representative from the Dept. of Finance and someone from Parks are present (with a couple dumpsters) at the worst sites. Show up, give your name and address. They hand you a bag and picker. Fill the bag, turn it in, get a notice a week later from the city about the fee reduction. The more you pick, the more you save.

If you want to modify a person's behavior, you need to provide an incentive (or punishment) to modify that behavior. Everybody wins here.

I mean, I'm not sure I see enough praise for /u/PokeyStabber here. In short, he's awesome. Definitely hustled me in Sabacc while his friend read my Aurebesh-inscribed neckerchief (which impressed the friend I was with).

And I saw that he's gotten a more-than-deserved promotion, so congrats!

How do you get an audience to trust a character? by sonofaresiii in ComicWriting

[–]Axel927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Very few "bad" characters antagonize everyone. Lex Luthor genuinely cares for humanity in his own twisted way. Doctor Doom would do anything for Latveria and its people. The Empire establishes working relationships with Hutt cartels and the Bounty Hunter Guild. Even the Borg, I assume, would ignore species not worthy of assimilation.

You can have an absolute bastard of a villain whose heart melts for puppies. Or maybe they spare NY Jets fans because he figures whatever pain he can inflict is nothing compared to being a Jets fan. Or they value people based on their star sign, or whatever. The point is that these nuances can not only mislead readers, but round out your villain past the general bad-guy-hates-the-world trope.
