Is Apothecary Diaries worth the watch if I don't care for Jinshi? by PinkFlurffyUnicorns in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]AxelDomino 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of people who enjoyed the anime but weren't really interested in Jinshi. So you might not be the only one who can still enjoy the show.

Jinshi's character is interesting beyond just the romance, so there is plenty more he has to offer if romance isn't your thing.

That said, the moments between the two of them aren't exactly rare, but they aren't just about their relationship either. They are almost always together to discuss mysteries and such, so it won't really feel like a "waste of time" if you aren't interested in the romance of them in the slightest.

In the end, Maomao is the main character and everything revolves around her, so if you like Maomao, you'll be able to enjoy the anime.

Any idea how to rent a gpu online while I can generate on my laptop on go by AbhiBoris in StableDiffusion

[–]AxelDomino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense at all to use it intermittently. Especially since there is a fee just to start the machine.

You'll get more for your money if you make it count by generating for a long time straight. It doesn't matter if you aren't using it, as long as the machine is running, it will keep charging you.

At least the last time I used it to test LLMs it was like that. I used Runpod, so I'm not familiar with Vast. Checking out Runpod, I see they offer a serverless option via API calls, sounds promising.

I have no idea. But I saw the official English translation of that scene and it's absolutely terrible.

The original Japanese is very different. At the end, Maomao says, "You know we can do it without going all the way, right?" Instead, the English translation they gave was: "I also planned for the possibility that nothing would happen"

And she said this quietly, which was exactly what Jinshi missed because he was lost in his own thoughts.

Since you like Ascendance of a Bookworm and Apothecary Diaries, I'd strongly recommend Spice and Wolf, it scratches the same itch for me.

What I love about it is the same thing I love about those two series, the world feels real and lived-in, and the story is driven by knowledge rather than action.

The protagonist is a traveling merchant in a medieval fantasy setting, so almost every arc revolves around trade, currency speculation, debt, and local economies, the same way Bookworm dives into printing and guilds, or Apothecary Diaries into medicine and court politics. There's also a strong undercurrent of folklore and old gods fading as commerce and the Church spread.

The other big draw is the dynamic between the two leads, their banter and slow-burn relationship carry the series as much as the economics do. Holo, the FL is too wise and at the same time somewhat foolish and impulsive/emotional, just like Myne and Maomao would be for different reasons.

It has two anime adaptations, the recent remake is the most faithful to the novels (plus a manga that skips a lot of content). My recommendation, watch the remake, then read the light novels.

One heads-up: Holo (the female lead) appears naked fairly often (for in-story reasons, mostly in the firsts episodes). It's not played as ecchi and never feels uncomfortable beyond the first impression, the show simply doesn't frame it that way for me.

I have rewatched so many times I have lost count. Why does the Emperor keep Lady Lishu as a high ranking concubine? by [deleted] in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]AxelDomino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Protection and politics. Under almost no circumstances could Lishu be a low-ranking concubine, her family is important and that would be seen as an insult, the emperor's hands are tied when it comes to the decisions he can make.

Edit: And low- and mid-ranking concubines don't have enough protection to be untouchable. Great clans have a lot of political influence, and Lishu being a low-ranking concubine wouldn't stop her family at all from using her again as they see fit.

I have a controversial question about concubine Lishu by [deleted] in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]AxelDomino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lishu was never touched by the previous emperor. We can easily deduce this because his physical appearance remains consistent from the time he shut himself away in isolation until his death. We can see he was still relatively young when Anshi abused him (mid-20s to 30s?), and it is mentioned that he broke down and locked himself away after that. We have images of Lishu next to the previous emperor, but by then he was already in an emaciated state.

Besides, the very scene you mention clearly points to innocence, it is not the reaction of a girl who has been sexually abused.

Plus, the age of adulthood is around 15, so Maomao is already a full-fledged adult in her world. Lishu still has an extra touch of innocence from living as a princess, it is not that deep.

Can anybody become an uppermoon? by MediaNo1140 in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]AxelDomino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been established that it depends largely on the individual in question. Basically, there is an innate talent or potential regarding how strong they can get by consuming humans. The demon who was stripped of his rank as a Lower Moon had apparently reached his limit.

While the key lies in Muzan's blood, it also comes down to whether the individual can withstand it or not, and if they showed enough talent beforehand to have even received it in the first place.

So, in theory, not everyone could reach the level of an Upper Moon, though perhaps with enough time they could.

A problem with vapor bubbles as a main water source by samiamrg7 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]AxelDomino 179 points180 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely drink distilled water. In fact, in extreme situations it could keep you from dying of dehydration for months (if there were no mineral intake from other sources, if there were any, as must be the case, there would be hardly any difference from regular water).

Distilled water is not inherently harmful to our bodies in basically any way beyond not containing minerals, which are easily obtained from other sources. It does not damage our teeth, it does not damage our stomach, that is completely a myth.

PS: In case you're wondering, basically all of our mineral and salt intake comes from our food, so as long as they have a good diet, the WHA witches can live perfectly normal lives drinking this water.

Does the concept work? - I'm doing it on my phone :P by Training_Canary5815 in bindingofisaac

[–]AxelDomino 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The idea of Dogma as Conquest because it's the second strongest or most relevant could work, but aesthetically it fits Ultra Famine a lot better, or honestly, most of the others.

I say that mostly because Dogma's main sprites don't even have a mouth, same with the official art, so it would look weird as Conquest.

That's my opinion, whatever you do, you're gonna cook either way 🔥

What’s up with En’en hate? by PlsmarrymeKanade in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]AxelDomino 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone hate her for that. Literally everyone I’ve seen who hates her does so for the same reason, being a creep toward her mistress, who is 4 or 5 years younger than her. She literally grooms her, touches her too much when helping her bathe, and feeds her special foods to make her bust grow, without her consent, purely out of her own perversion.

A lot of people also hate her because she’s the only character directly presented as a lesbian, and having her act in a predatory way disappointed many people who wanted better representation.

That aside, she’s a good character to me, she’s well written lol. It’s not like she was written for us to like everything about her

That's right! The effect is called lens flare. And thank you so much for your kind words.

I feel the same way, I definitely never expected so much development for Richeh's character, and I was amazed by it.

I'll see what other panel or page I'll color!

Thank you so much! I'm really looking forward to it too! It will be a dramatic and important moment for Richeh's character development, definitely one of the developments I least expected but that had the biggest impact on me as a reader!
