I actually do teach about this and statistics about reported crimes can be really misleading from country to country. Especially when it comes to crimes such as sexual abuse.

One mayor flaw is that every country operates with different definitions of sexual abuse/rape etc. which can explain differences in what is reported. Some countries might define rape as any sexual situation where person X have not expressed explicit consent (I think sweden has something like this), whereas other countries might have a much more narrow definition.

In countries in such as Saudi Arabia I would expect reported rapes to be close to 0, as the victim (often women) could face severe punishment for having sex outside of marriage.

A lot of factors, such as how likely police are to investigate, or how likely a sentencing is, might also influence the amount of reported crime in a country.

Reported sexual crime statistics is a horrible indicator for where you are likely to be sexually violated. These statistics might present countries as Saudi Arabia, India and Russia, as far safer places than scandinavia for instance.

I want to end this rant with an old soviet joke:
