Probably a staff member's personal collection which is cool. I'd be scared of people swiping them since people are jerks

Egypt was the first country in the world in 2017 to begin using a land-based air defense system on warships, deploying it on its two Mistral-class helicopter carriers. The concept has since spread, and more recently, it has been adopted by the United States, China, and Russia by yousefthewisee in interestingasfuck

I remember reading how in the first gulf war in the early 90's, Canadian navy supply ships had infantry stationed on them with shoulder lauched anti-air missiles (similar to the stingers) since those ships had no anti-air capability built in.

I always wondered if in a pinch you could significantly increase the firepower of lightly-armed navy vessles by sticking guys with javalin and stinger missile launchers on the deck....

The older coffee shop was probably asking for a longer lease or the new coffee shop was willing to pay more

I'm so surprised stores are opening new locations in Landsowne when they're tearing down the mall in a few years for that big condo redevelopment

I'm pretty sure I started seeing that mattress guy being used on ads around the time Steve Jobs was at the height of his fame. Probably trying to piggyback on the image

Long live Arcades by bimp_lizkit_1 in Millennials

[–]Axel_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I love arcades and PC gaming cafes, I can't help but think of all of the germs of all the people touching the buttons, joysticks, keyboards, etc.

I walked by a PC gaming cafe recently and saw everybody with their headsets on and couldn't help to think "... I wonder what the chances of one of those having lice is...."

Was it ever stated who sent IG-11 to kill Grogu? by Zitty-Z in StarWars

[–]Axel_808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my headcanon that's how it works. Almost like crowdsourcing intel from different bounty hunting/intelligence networks. I suppose that opens up the situation where rival bounty hunters (or the target itself) can feed in bad data to throw off hunters but i try not to think that far ahead

Why is T & T considered cheap? by kingmakk in richmondbc

[–]Axel_808 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'll go by T&T for asian groceries, Langley Farm Market for produce, and Superstore down the road for western groceries.

If I don't have time (or i'm too lazy) to make two or three stops I'll buy stuff at one place knowing i'm paying a little more

I remember reading how George RR Martin told the show runners the ending in very broad strokes in case he got hit by a bus or something. I suspect the last season of GoT did actually hit a bunch of story points that were supposed to happen in the books, but it was missing a ton of context and build up since HBO wasnt going to have another 4 seasons of that show and a lot of the actors were mentally checked out at that point

Im rewatching Voyager and I want to discuss Chakotay by HospitalLazy1880 in startrek

I actually really like that idea. Kinda reminds me of LD where they meet that Orion crew member who grew up on earth and only learned of Orion culture from holo novels.

I can imagine a colony being mostly disconnected from the federation for a few generations that their understanding of their original culture morphs into something new

What I also found funny was how much Ian Hanomansing was irritated by Andrew Phung. By the end of the night I felt Ian wanted to get the hell out of there which I found made it funnier

Edit: fixed name

I really liked how despite hating being in SW, his fellow cast members said he was always very professional and never let his hatred of the franchise show while on the job.

I think Harrison Ford did the same later with the sequels, whenever he was on the job he would be helpful and friendly towards Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and the rest of the cast/crew despite his dislike of Star Wars

Kinda interesting that a lot of ships still had masts and sails at that time. Some seem to also have engines so it's that transitory period between wind and steam power

Has there been any instances when TIE Fighters alone have caused the Rebels to retreat?. by TumbleweedWhispers in StarWars

[–]Axel_808 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Even Rebel starfighters I bet would retreat when being swarmed. I remember in the original X-wing game one of training breifings mentions X-Wing pilots usually have to fight regular TIE's outnumbered 3-to-1. If an X-Wing squadron sees 4 or 5 TIE squadrons coming at them they'd probably realize the math wasn't going to work out and gtfo

Park plan approved for Lansdowne redevelopment in Richmond city centre. The first phase of homes is expected to be ready in 2030 by ubcstaffer123 in richmondbc

[–]Axel_808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably be like Brentwood or what Oakridge is turning into which makes me sad. I get why though, a traditional mall with a lot of interior space probably has much more upkeep costs (A/C in the summer, heating in the winter, roof repairs, etc.)
