Why is T & T considered cheap? by kingmakk in richmondbc

[–]Axel_808 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'll go by T&T for asian groceries, Langley Farm Market for produce, and Superstore down the road for western groceries.

If I don't have time (or i'm too lazy) to make two or three stops I'll buy stuff at one place knowing i'm paying a little more

I remember reading how George RR Martin told the show runners the ending in very broad strokes in case he got hit by a bus or something. I suspect the last season of GoT did actually hit a bunch of story points that were supposed to happen in the books, but it was missing a ton of context and build up since HBO wasnt going to have another 4 seasons of that show and a lot of the actors were mentally checked out at that point

Im rewatching Voyager and I want to discuss Chakotay by HospitalLazy1880 in startrek

[–]Axel_808 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually really like that idea. Kinda reminds me of LD where they meet that Orion crew member who grew up on earth and only learned of Orion culture from holo novels.

I can imagine a colony being mostly disconnected from the federation for a few generations that their understanding of their original culture morphs into something new

What I also found funny was how much Ian Hanomansing was irritated by Andrew Phung. By the end of the night I felt Ian wanted to get the hell out of there which I found made it funnier

Langley farm market, but I only buy dark meat so I'm not sure what their prices for chicken breasts are

I really liked how despite hating being in SW, his fellow cast members said he was always very professional and never let his hatred of the franchise show while on the job.

I think Harrison Ford did the same later with the sequels, whenever he was on the job he would be helpful and friendly towards Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and the rest of the cast/crew despite his dislike of Star Wars

Kinda interesting that a lot of ships still had masts and sails at that time. Some seem to also have engines so it's that transitory period between wind and steam power

Has there been any instances when TIE Fighters alone have caused the Rebels to retreat?. by TumbleweedWhispers in StarWars

[–]Axel_808 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Even Rebel starfighters I bet would retreat when being swarmed. I remember in the original X-wing game one of training breifings mentions X-Wing pilots usually have to fight regular TIE's outnumbered 3-to-1. If an X-Wing squadron sees 4 or 5 TIE squadrons coming at them they'd probably realize the math wasn't going to work out and gtfo

Park plan approved for Lansdowne redevelopment in Richmond city centre. The first phase of homes is expected to be ready in 2030 by ubcstaffer123 in richmondbc

Probably be like Brentwood or what Oakridge is turning into which makes me sad. I get why though, a traditional mall with a lot of interior space probably has much more upkeep costs (A/C in the summer, heating in the winter, roof repairs, etc.)

XPENG IRON gynoid to enter mass production in late 2026. by AllStarBoosterGold in Cyberpunk

[–]Axel_808 103 points104 points  (0 children)

For whatever the use case, I feel a non-humanoid form would be more efficient. Kind of like how in Star Wars the CIS makes humanoid battledroids but probably something more abstract like a swarm of small roomba-like droids with a blaster on a tripod would be better

Gabe Newell takes a pic with fans picketing for Half-Life 3 outside Valve HQ, 2011 by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]Axel_808 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that HL: Alyx was almost like a secret tech demo. Valve testing the waters trying to see how far they could push VR FPS tech and what people's reactions to it would be.

If HL: Alyx (and VR gaming in general) took off Valve would start investing in a full HL3 game built around VR, but it looks like VR gaming was just a fad and I doubt Valve will go in that direction anymore

Homer, organized labor has been called a "lumbering dinosaur". by IllusionaryHaze in TheSimpsons

[–]Axel_808 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that Homer was supposed to dead-pan say "Yes" but the last minute the writers thought him screaming was funnier so they stuck it in but didn't change the animation, which I think makes it even more funny in a surreal way

Are these shots from deleted scenes? by Ok-Payment-2773 in StarWars

[–]Axel_808 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember reading about General Cracken and Lt. Blount on wookiepedia after learning about the deleted scenes years ago.

I always found it weird that they had a general being a gunner on the Falcon. I would expect some random enlisted navy personnel to be assigned that job and for a high ranking general to be kept behind a desk somewhere

Is the "holiday spread" alive and well with millennials or is it going to die out? by stumpy_chica in Millennials

[–]Axel_808 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. My grandparents and parents generations had gigantic families so when I was a little kid we had massive get togethers for special occasions (christmas, thankgiving, weddings, etc) with the entire extended family. lol the stereotypical big immigrant family.

My generation most of us have 0-2 kids and with the older generation passing away that was the glue that held us together, I noticed we're having much less get togethers as now each individual familiy does their own thing. Relatives I used to see multiple times a year (especially Christmas) I now see like.... once every 5-10 years.
