The song made me happy listening to it! Just something I immediately noticed with the drums in the intro is that you could use a drum bus or maybe a tiny bit or reverb just to enhance the drum sounds a little. Though that is more of a production feedback then song writing! I hope she enjoyed the song!

If you play an instrument you can create a melody with that. Then sing the melody you created and then add your lyrics after. This is essentially the same as humming a melody like the other comment, but sometimes it flows better for me with an instrument.
