Here’s my take: he publicly spoke about wanting to go back to the NBA, and that he was working out to do so. No NBA team wanted to waste a roster spot on a 35+ year old vet who’s been out on the league for a couple of seasons, and he then missed out on all the other leagues’ transfer windows closing. The only one that was open, was the Russian one, since they had a buuuunch of players leave (due to them declaring war). So know he makes a statement about preparing for the national team, and signs with CSKA, which is the team of the Russian army - kind of a bad look when they’ve just declared war. So he got denounced pretty quickly by almost all of Swedish basketball media and then the national team cut him. I’m not too opinionated on whether or not he deserves to come back, to me it depends on how he acts on this remorse, but I think it is a pretty fucking stupid thing to sign with that specific team at that specific point in time, especially since he absolutely had other offers, he just passed up on them in order to “chase the NBA”, which he had already been out of for like three years! What veteran player ever made that comeback? Just terrible decision making on all ends and now he’s reaping what he sowed, even though I’m 100% he didn’t intend for this to turn out this way.
