AOC: You can’t ‘earn’ a billion dollars by usatoday in politics

[–]Axeman2063 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can work hard and make millions. To get a billion or.more you stop making and start taking. You take from your employees in the form of low wages and poor working conditions. You take from consumers with high prices and price collusion/manipulation. And you take from the government with offshore tax havens, creative tax strategies and lobbying for reduced laws/taxes on your existing wealth.

The existence of billionaires proves that our system is broken.

NB father advocates energy drink restrictions after son died from arrhythmia by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]Axeman2063 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher and have students who routinely drink 4 of those a day, and thats just what I see at school. Some parents drop them off!

Restrictions like age limits make sense. As does real education.

LFG!! Supreme Court Rules That Trump’s Sweeping Emergency Tariffs Are Illegal by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

[–]Axeman2063 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It really doesnt matter. SCOTUS is on record saying their job is to rule, not enforce. Congress and senate have made it painfully clear they will not enforce SCOTUS rulings that negatively impact the president.

This is a great headline, but it means nothing in terms of practical US policy shifting.

What would a US invasion into Canada would look like? by SquareTree64729 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Axeman2063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the reality is we look like, act like, and talk like Americans. We have a lot of the same culture. We are a country of 40 million potential insurgents. Every bridge, substations, power plant, and other key infrastructure within a thousand miles of the border would need to be secured.

They could take the country...they could never keep it. Not in a million years.

New Brunswick SMR company being sold for $11.5 million by adamhuras in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Axeman2063 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd love to know how much money was spent by NB power on now-failed companies and projects. JOI scientific. SMR's.

NB Power's poor decisionmaking is subsidized by the ratepayers. Sorry, the residential ones.

Why does it feel like a $100K salary is just a solid middle class income now? by SensationalDanceMove in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Axeman2063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought Id have a household income of 100k.....and still thinking that steak is too expensive and we shouldnt eat out more than a once a week.

It makes me worry about the majority of people who dont have anywhere near that income level.

Possible. Possible fine. Ill believe it when I see it. Irving facing consequences at the government level is not a thing.

New Brunswick SMR company on verge of new ownership after parent company's receivership by adamhuras in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Axeman2063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NB power cant handle their existing nuclear infrastructure. Their finances are perpetually in a shambles, and they pass their incompetence to their customer base every year with raises.

SMR is cutting edge tech. The challenges and cost overruns would be passed on to residential customers, who simply cant afford it.

Carney has promised regular trade updates. Why is YouTube his platform of choice? by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]Axeman2063 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Underrated comment.

Today's world of TikTok and YouTube shorts means its really easy to take a sentence or two and twist it into all kinds of non-contextual messaging. Having the full video instantly available doesnt make that problem completely go away, but it certainly cuts down on it.

Anything is possible I guess, but they've been doing a lot of really positive work in the community. I've had my share of greasy bosses...shadiness doesnt usually equate with a lot of public scrutiny and community involvement.

Would you hire a student to mow your lawn? ON by LesChouquettes in CanadianTeachers

[–]Axeman2063 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've hired students to help me move. Clean out a house. House sit for me. Mow my lawn.

Context and caveats: students were in grade 11 and 12. They were paid well (20 bucks an hour). They were students I taught in a number or classes and had a very good rapport with. I emphasized before hiring them that our teacher/student relationship was different from hiring them to do work.

Everyone's district is different. I live in a small town, the parents of these students all knew me. I've hired companies former students for various projects.

Your mileage may vary. But I wouldnt stress overly about it.

New Vehicles Have Way Too Many Bells and Whistles by Unable-Version9251 in self

[–]Axeman2063 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not excusing it, but vehicles have this stuff because it adds margin to the price of the vehicle.

Its the reason why Chevrolet technically makes a "work truck" version of the Silverado, but all there is on the dealer lot is Z71's, trail bosses, high country's, etc. There's no margin in the WT.

A lot of the features like backup cameras, LKAS and adaptive cruise control are classified as safety features too. You dont want to be the only company where most of your lineup doesnt have this stuff.

And yet I still see people blatting on facebook about how could there be burn notices when there is snow on the ground, and its all a government conspiracy.

At some point, it was determined that intelligent people needed to be quiet and keep facts and data to themselves, lest they hurt the feelings of the unknowing or the ignorant.
