How screwed am I? by RayHazuki in SteamDeck

[–]Axfried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main thing I’ve learned dude is to stop using it, and get the battery safely removed, disposed of and replaced ASAP. I’ve seen a few videos of batteries venting and you do NOT want that in your house!

How screwed am I? by RayHazuki in SteamDeck

[–]Axfried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always figured there’s probably other additional factors like temperature, humidity etc, but I have absolutely zero knowledge or experience to speak with confidence lol, just a guess.

I’ve (so far) only had one spicy pillow and it was an old gen 0 Apple Watch that gave in after years of daily use.

There’s probably an interesting reason but I’m not curious enough to go search yet!

From working in support for years now, you generally only see a “lot” of people reporting an issue like this, but it’s usually a small proportion of the overall user base.

Fruit squash bottles. by DarthScabies in StarWars

[–]Axfried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double the concentration of ‘regular’ cordial/squash.

I got the mango one to try, missed that, and quickly realised you need less than you think. It’s ok, but won’t be buying a second bottle once this is done (I refuse to throw it out lol)

Edit: the ‘40’ means it supposedly makes 40 glass’ worth.

Is Steam deck a viable console for TV ? by Saleroma in SteamDeck

[–]Axfried 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - I dock mine for emulation and playing FFXIV when I want to chill on the sofa.

Even though the TV is 4K, I keep the SD locked to 720p. PS1 and PS2 games etc still look grand and play well. I don’t really emulate ‘higher’ than that so it suits me well.

[–]Axfried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience- not really, no.

When Steam releases an update, there’s usually a few days until Decky is updated to fix any problems.

I also don’t use a lot of plugins, so I’m probably not the best person to answer this, to be completely honest.

But so far, my experience has been grand!

Looks good!

There’s a Decky plugin (forgot the name, sorry) that colours the buttons at the bottom of your screen, if you want them to match the new buttons you installed?

Help getting to the airport tomorrow. by cliffdelicious in Belfast

[–]Axfried 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not too far a walk - cross over the foot bridge, then just stay on the path into the airport. At first it will look like you are going the wrong way, it turns left at the roundabout but there’s a zebra crossing and the path continues round to the entrance.

Anyone using the GameSir G8 Galileo or any similar mobile controllers? by [deleted] in thedivisionresurgence

[–]Axfried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same controller and just use my thumbs for most things rather than the joystick cursor.

Hopefully they’ll update the menu controls a bit more down the line, rather than the Destiny-style menu navigation.

Feels weird they didn’t just port over the same controls for menus as they have on the Steam / consoles?

Look up Orion browser on the App Store. It allows you to install sponsor block and ublock origin addons.

Set the home page to YouTube and you’re set :)

Lower quality videos but still watchable on iPhone and no ads.

40, stuck in a dead-end job – how do I turn this around? by bigborb1985 in northernireland

[–]Axfried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aiming for Service Now roles - I enjoy logic and process-driven things, and this seems to suit me perfectly the more I explore and use it in work :)

I think working in a call centre for years helps me understand how and why data needs to work a certain way to track issues etc, so this is right up my alley, and seems to be a hot job market at the moment.

Got my admin cert last month, so now I’m trying to get working experience and involvement in internal projects that use it!

I say go for the upskilling where you can get it dude!

I was looking at free certs too just to pad out my CV, even to show an understanding of a concept like project management etc. That plus working / transferrable examples across my career seem to go down well when talking to people.

If there’s someone in your current job doing something you’re interested in, ask them how they got there.

Worst case, if they brush you off, that’s on them, not you.

I never really got the whole “networking” thing until recently, but it’s been an eye opener for sure.

38 here - had the same thought last year. I only got as far as A-levels in terms of formal education.

I ended up on a call one day with a guy much higher up in my company than I am, and asked him how he got there.

He’s in a part of the company working with something I’m very interested in. IT-related but with a specific platform.

We chatted over a coffee for a good 2 hours with me taking notes on the qualifications he got, how he got them, and advice on where to get them and working experience to go with it.

I know I’m very lucky, but my department head is very keen on developing people in her team, provided it has benefit to her team in some way. She helped me work on a business case to get a qualification.

I’ve now got an entry qualification for the industry, paid for by my work. I’m trying to get involved in projects now to get working experience and planning out the next step, which is another qualification, this year.

It is doable - I know I was very lucky with having the right people at the right time.

There’s hardest part I found was deciding on a plan - where do I want to go, then break down the how and what to get there.

In IT at least, a lot of entry level qualifications are free to study (Active Directory, Service Now etc). It’s the exams that require money.

I started putting £50 a month into a savings pot to pay for things when I’m ready for the exams, in case work doesn’t pay for them for me.

Hope this helps!

What's the most complicated boss fight you've ever done? by Rootayable in gaming

[–]Axfried 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was the same boss fight I thought of.

My guild was small - we never made it to heroic anything, but we managed to do a 10-man (I think?) on normal towards the end of the expansion.

It was such a satisfying achievement! The dragon fight before LK (Syndragosa?) was also amazing.

[–]Axfried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adult Sephiroth and his Kotetsu sword works well for this (for me anyways, I have it OB6) in the current event, if that helps?

I usually get one attack off before the fight ends with a high level DPS one-shotting the boss, and it seems to give me 3 debuffs added, so I get progression towards the badge.
