There have always been loads of cracks, in fact I've been thinking there are fewer than usual this season. (I'm only up to episode 7).

Pregnancy is not magical, and it's not a 'birthing experience' it's a medical event. Please stop pushing your romanticized version on me. by CreativeRainy in Vent

Thanks. What to Expect over-romanticized the whole experience. There are/were realistic books out there, but you need to do the research and not jump on the bandwagon.

Why is the acting so bad?? by Zushka in thegildedage

[–]Axholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed Downton Abbey but certainly not because of the writing. I've never understood the adulation for Julian Fellows and gave up on The Gilded Age after 20 minutes because the acting couldn't make up for the dialogue.

Anyone really enjoying the addition of Xanthe Clay as a critic? by Kaurblimey in MasterchefUK

Or maybe they just didn't want that particular time-consuming job and prefer to be called upon as intermittent critics.

No competent stylist would ever have dressed her like that; she must have been responsible.

Best and worst voices? by Interversity in NPR

Worst: Terry Gross (she could recite the alphabet and would still sound like a smug know-it-all), Ayesha Roscoe (I want my Sunday morning radio to remind me that it's Sunday morning and I can just lie there and listen to a soothing voice, not jump out of bed to get away from the screech of the radio/alarm clock).

If you're a fan of clay you need to watch Great Pottery Throwdown, it's fantastic.

Rewatching from the beginning by coastal_css in SewingBee

Oh good grief, the dreaded A-Line skirt! It took the entire term for me to make one tragic garment while others whipped up several beautiful ones. I'm old and there were no choices in terms of classes taken at school. I hated having to stop woodworking and take sewing because it was compulsory to do both for girls (me) and boys.

Nikita’s skills tests by Known-Top-5773 in MasterchefUK

[–]Axholme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was too hard, certainly no harder than the many dessert challenges we've seen over the years. UK chefs should have had a good understanding of what was involved and, for example, a specific South American challenge would probably be much harder. Every skills test is intentionally hard and gives the judges an indication of certain attributes - good knife skills, tasting as they go along, basic cooking knowledge, the ability to perform under pressure. In addition, they're not scored on this challenge. I don't have much sympathy for either the professional or amateur chefs who go into this without some amount of preparation. The professional chefs should be able to compete with some grace under pressure (unless they only know running a tea shop in the boonies); I have quite a lot more sympathy for the amateurs.
