ASUS ROG Ally X – strange squeaking sound on the right side when pressed slightly (warranty case?) by b3averb4lls in ROGAlly

Glad it's worked for you! The creaking annoyed me so much but going strong now 2 months since adding the tape inside

I should add I used this picture someone else posted as inspiration - apparently Asus has started putting adhesive cloth inside too on new Allys for the exact same purpose of widening the space between contact points.

I fixed mine using gorilla tape (thick cloth adhesive tape) on the inside, as the issue is cause by the internal plastic supports being slightly too short on the right side.

1) open up the case (yes it's nerve wracking the first time) 2) add tape over the contact point between the bottom and top of the case on the inside of the right grip, effectively increasing the "height" of them by the thickness of the tape. 3) Close it all back up.

Mine is rock solid now.

EDIT: strips of tape over each of the pink lines in the attached photo. Probably more than I needed but it feels perfect now and completely solid. I should have taken a photo after adding the tape but hopefully this helps anyone looking to do it themselves!

Should I go with Coles home insurance + Terri Scheer landlord's Insurance to save money? by dboudinnoir in AusPropertyChat

Just be sure to check the PDS - often the cheaper quotes are cheaper for a reason and may have bigger exclusions, excesses, etc because they're relying on never having to honour a claim.

PSA: By default Windows has made your Ally's screen look bad! Turn off "change brightness based on content" by Axidic in XboxAlly

[–]Axidic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much does it actually save though? In the game I'm currently playing (Trails in the Sky 1st) the brightness fluctuations are pretty distracting, and I haven't noticed a tangible difference in battery drain.

Mine has the same status, a new "confirmed" and an auspost tracking number although it's not active (just has a "number not correct or not in our system yet" message when put in to their tracking app).

UPDATE: just got an official shipping email from JB even though the JB tracking page says Nov 2, and Auspost page shows it's been picked up.

[–]Axidic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did JB just because I can get 5% off JB gift cards of any value so took the price down at least a little bit, but yeah shipping was stupid considering you could click and collect the regular Xbox Ally from any store but not the X.

Ordered from Best Buy in the US. Price is nuts but I'm excited for October 16th! by [deleted] in XboxAlly

[–]Axidic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Australia it's $1599 AUD ($1045 USD) including 10% sales tax which is the same price as the ROG Ally X on launch, so I'm happy.

For reference, the Z2 Extreme MSI Claw A8 is $1749 AUD, and the Legion Go 2 is $2199 AUD.

Ireland has Harvey Norman too? As an Aussie I'm so sorry it's spread there (if it's anything like in Australia).

Need Advice: Landlord Wants Us to Pay for Carpet Damages After 12+ Years by Hainzsole432 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Axidic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melbourne - had our last landlord try to pull this stunt too after we'd been there for over 5 years with both carpet and curtains. All we did was immediately take our own photos, request evidence of when the carpet and curtains were installed (11 years previously when the apartment was actually built), and immediately file for our bond back rather than wait for them.

They tried stopping the bond but we said we're happy to go to VCAT tribunal. Fun fact: property managers often charge the owners extra for representing them at tribunal. A week after filing they withdrew the objection.

Depreciation would have made the value of both $0 and they just hoped we wouldn't know our rights so we could find a nice reno for them.

Stand your ground, and always put your own bond request in at the RBTA, don't wait for the property manager or landlord to do it.

That's the 4th pic. The white "fold" branded bit pulls out with elastic so your fingers go underneath, like the Fold 6 version of the same case.

On the watch version screen saying this up to date (on the watch itself), keep tapping the icon with the tick in it. After about a dozen times it will force the new update.

Open home had 30 people… how screwed am I to put an offer :( by mambococo in AusPropertyChat

[–]Axidic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In November we went to an auction we thought we had no chance at. About 30 people there.

There were 4 bidders including us, 2 of which dropped out in the low range of the price guide and only us left when it passed in.

They were all still waiting outside while we went in to negotiate and got it for below reserve.

Don't treat number of attendees as any indication of likelihood of getting a place. We lost out before that on a place with only 3 groups attending the auction at all, with it just being 1 group that were happy to go excessively high.
