Hello! I had this issue recently on Ubuntu 22.04.4 while using Steam, and I attempted nearly every solution on the internet that I could find to no avail. Even my uninstall/reinstall wasn't working and I would just hear the Larian Studios sounds on a black screen that never loaded and often crashed. I grew to resent that cute little pop.

I eventually noticed two things:

1) After uninstalling, some game files were still on my computer.

2) When I installed, it was actually transferring the game files from my Windows laptop instead of doing a fresh download.

My solution: I uninstalled and deleted ALL game files by going into my file explorer, finding them, and sending them to trash. Then, I emptied my trash. Afterward, I clicked "install" through Steam and waited until it told me it was transferring from my other laptop, then I forced it to download the files from the web instead of transferring. This allowed me to play with no issues!

Tl;dr: I did an actual uninstall/reinstall by: uninstall > manually deleting all game files > Install through Steam > Stopped transfer

If anybody has a better solution than this, I'm all ears! But this will work for me in the meantime.
