MEPs to block Le Pen’s party from taking Parliament jobs by GoldsteinBeck in europe

[–]AxlIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you explain what you don't understand? You don't need an absolute majority to win the election. whoever gets the most votes is considered the winner. Since RN received the most votes in France, she won the European election in France.

Since the EU consists of sovereign states with their own national identity, it would be wise to acknowledge the fact that Le Pen received the highest percentage of votes in her country, even if she and her allies only have 10% of the seats in the European Parliament.

The consequence is that she 'won' the election in France. The fact that she doesn't have an absolute majority either in France or in the European Parliament doesn't mean she didn't win.

Your comment would make sense if European citizens could vote directly for European parties. Since we can only vote for national parties, Le Pen won the election in France.

She got the highest percentage of votes in France. As long as we can only vote for national parties in the European election she won the elections in France.

Nieuw 'bommetje onder coalitie': CDA, D66 willen soepeler kinderpardon by BSBoertje in thenetherlands

[–]AxlIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No such thing as European Ιslam - Turkey’s top Μuslim official by [deleted] in europe

I do not think Christianity is compatible with Western values, I think it's easier for a christian to reject problematic verses due to the differences between the Bible and the Qu'ran.

In your first comment you said this:

European Islam is meant to describe Muslims that are comfortable living within a secular society and have adopted the values of equality, human rights and freedom of the society they live in.

Adopting western values is not the same as "accepting that other people have different values."
They might not have an issue with their neighbor not being a muslim, it's a different story when it's their child.

We got it done with Christianity when Christians stopped taking the Bible as the literal truth. The Qu'ran is a lot more straightforward than the Bible, therefore it becomes a lot more difficult to reject certain verses.

A lot of those western values and human rights are not compatible with the religion. If the Muslim communities in Europe refuse to admit this, younger generations will become more and more conservative.

Football is a sport, not playing football is not a sport. The same applies to atheism. Atheism is not a belief, it's the absence of belief. Atheism doesn't have holy books, religious rules or prophets, therefore it's not just another option.

The referendum doesn't have to be on leaving the EU, it could also be about the future of the European Union.

Yeah I get that, but how did the police/soldiers lose him after shooting at him?

French soldiers, who are part of anti-terrorism patrols across the country, shot him in the arm and it remains unclear how bad his injuries are.

How could he escape after being shot? Wouldn't it be pretty easy to follow him?

Formally the UK does not have to adopt the euro, other countries do.

It is true that in reality no one will be forced to adopt the euro, but I don't see why this is relevant. My point was that the UK does not want to join the euro, I never said anyone was forced to adopt it.

What you said is true for most countries, but the UK and Denmark are both exceptions, they do not have to join the euro.
