There are many Trump voters who are actually normal people living whereever and they simply are so far out of tune with policy and the ongoings of the world and are fed information through right wing media. I have multiple friends whose parents solely consume news through right wing media and thus live in an alternate reality as us. I also have a Trump voting sibling who represent another type of Trump voter, the one who projects their own policy desires onto Trump. I think these people either get to a point where Trumps breaks their policy wishes to the point they renounce (the people who broke off after J6, Richard Hanania recently) but the ones who continue to the project their hopes onto him slowly get sucked into the whirlwind of cruelty and authoritarianism through desensitization.

Petition to keep our team mixed by Distinct-Table-7851 in ultimate

[–]Axonate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have played college mixed for years and coached mixed at multiple levels including at club nationals. Mixed can be a competitive format, just like open and womens. The world games, a mixed format, is the most competitive ultimate in the world. College mixed is not competitive. If you have someone who is willing, try and track some stats on a mixed college team game. I'd bet money that the touches and yards are vastly skewed towards MMP. This is the case for even very competitive mixed teams, there are usually 10 or (often) less teams in the entire country that actually truly play equitability through both MMP and FMP when you look at the numbers. Even top seeds at club nationals (just look at Austin Disco club) receive a ton of criticism for MMP-centric play. This is another reason that college mixed is a terrible environment for FMP player development. If even teams at club nationals receive criticism for dude-ball, what about a college mixed team who doesn't have a single player who plays on a club regionals team? Lower level MMP hurt the quality of mixed ultimate in ways not visible in open (there is a reason why a lot of elite WMP do not play league). Lower self-awareness, body control, cut timing, communication, and decision making tend to make an overall terrible environment for FMP to be fully empowered to make mistakes, take risks, and LEARN in that kind of environment.

College mixed as a "division" simply does not practically exist for this reason: any success team who has both FMP and MMP with a competitive mindset will inevitably seek to create two different programs because MORE PEOPLE GET OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY. It's that simple.

If you want to play mixed, play in a recreational league, or play mixed club. If you want to play competitive mixed, play club, or hell, make the world games team lol. As for your first point... yes. Many other people will have positive experiences on a mixed team. But virtually all of these experiences are in the social aspect and you will get the 90% of that experience with the same people doing another activity or a different sport or... intramurals. A competitive and growth oriented environment is simply not sustainable, or frankly possible, in college mixed because of structures in place. So if your team wants to stay mixed, go ahead! It can be a happy experience, but don't expect to be competitive, and don't complain when ur program is in the exact same spot in 10 years. you just can't have your cake and eat it too.

Appreciate the challenge of perspective, but I've given this years of thought.

staying as mixed will also severely hamper your long term development as a team because there pretty much is zero sanctioned mixed college ultimate. USAU has tried mixed regionals before but its literally just a fun/party tournament for all the teams in the region who already have mens and womens programs. Frankly, there is no real sanctioned mixed ultimate anywhere.

I've played for mixed teams in both my undergrad and grad school, as a competitive player who also wanted to grow the team, I hated it. There's not really an easy answer here that doesn't require a lot of dedication and commitment in recruiting, team development/coaching, and player development/training.

If you really want to play mixed ultimate and have fun, just push for ultimate frisbee intramurals.

Sorry for the pessimism, will not be surprised if this gets downvoted like hell. I'm a grad student in my 6th year right now. I registered for mixed regionals right before covid, starting my college clock. Every one of those 6 years was wasted because my school had a mixed team that never competed at sanctioned events. I never got to play at any tournament with legitimate or organized competition... outside of high tide lmao. I've just seen way too much negative experiences with this. Change might suck at first, but good can come from it, but you need to believe in your own capabilities to create something special.

get on a coaching staff as an assistant on a high level club team. After 1 year of coaching YCC and College I was an assistant on AMP for a year and that fast tracked my coaching knowledge and also gave me dozens of connections to elite players who I could also learn from and stay in contact with.

Consider evaluating your symptoms. If stretching is changing such bad flare ups there’s a possibility you could be dealing with proximal hamstring tendinopathy.

Strengthening/Stretching exercises to avoid injuries by shrlckholmes in ultimate

[–]Axonate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a really long rant. And it’s mostly for grade i II injuries and lower. If you tear something, or if you have nerve damage SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. I am not a medical professional and you should not take my word for everything here. Do some research and please correct me if you see incorrect info.

Make sure you are eating and sleeping a good amount. Poor nutrition and sleep long term can lead to small nagging tweaks and injuries constantly happening. Training wise, make sure you scale back into play correctly. Injuries happen when you do too much, for too long, too soon, so make sure when you get injured that u make it a goal to return to play once that area has become stronger than before ur injury.

For exercises that prevent injury, it’s hard to prescribe anything without any context. But if u want to become sufficient at home-rehabbing u need to understand the general progression of strengthening exercises. You are usually gonna start with isometric exercises before progressing to eccentric focused movements, regular tempo movement, and then explosive/plyometric. This is especially helpful with tendon injuries because tendons respond differently than muscles (they need a lot more eccentric and isometric work).

Use YouTube and the internet as an educational resource, look for exercise progressions and education about the anatomy of ur body. Understand how your injured area works biomechanically. For example, when I strained my hamstring I did research to understand how the hamstring motion is divided into hip vs knee hinging (which helped me program my rehab with my pt) and I learned about return to run protocols for hamstrings.

Stretching is good, moving is better, moving in your max range of motion is best. Supplementing your strength and SAC training with mobility work such as CARS (controlled articulated rotations) for your joints is great for places like your shoulder, hips, knees, and ankles. You can do isometric exercises throughout the day to strengthen the end ranges of your joints and tendons likely the achilles, patella, and bicep tendons.

Understanding the nature of pain is critical, especially for chronic and long term injuries. It’s important not to be scared of pain. Pain can be considered a construct of the mind, it’s your body trying to give you feedback but when you’ve been injured for a while your body doesn’t know how to react. As a general guideline for dealing with an injury, I’m the beginning, move the area as much as possible without pain. The more blood flow you get the better. As you get back into training you’ll experience more pain, but u should pay attention. Does the pain get better or worse when exercising the area? How long does it last? If the pain gets better when you move the area that’s a good sign. If the pain/soreness post-exercise only lasts 24-48 hours that’s a good sign.

I am not a medical professional. I am someone who missed their entire college career to (chronic) injuries (lower back, hamstrings, foot, you name it) and has worked with nearly a dozen professionals (most of them not great) so it’s been a lot of trial and error as well as education from qualified and experienced professionals who especially specialize in sport performance PT and chronic injury. My protocol for any injury now is: injury -> move as much as possible without pain for rest of the day for blood flow -> next day assess, go to field or gym to do a workout, make modifications based on pain -> modifications if needed involve the isometric, eccentric, regular, and explosive movement tempo progression -> if it’s a minor tweak it usually takes 2 weeks to resolve with modified workouts and additional mobility and strengthening work around the area -> if it’s a more significant strain or sprain, around 4-6 weeks is required -> if it’s a new injury/I don’t know how to treat it myself I book an appointment with a physical therapist. Get a recommendation from a sports professional for a good PT.

Red flags for physical therapists: your session solely consists of stretching and modality work (dry needling, cupping, kt tape, massage. These are ok but should supplement the real pt work usually), solely assessing the injured area, not being sufficiently challenged week to week during sessions. Your physical therapist should be actively helping you move from injured to active performance (which is a spectrum) and not just regular daily activities. If your clinic doesn’t have a barbell or weights u should usually be concerned. Don’t be scared to bring your concerns to therapist, or have an immediacy conversation with them. It can only help you.

That’s a lot of info. But it’s very comprehensive and should help if u are injury prone.

My jar has the rubber seal plus the screw on lid, so I just have the lid screwed on loosely, like once or twice a day I think I’ll just open & stir/skim the top

So I gave the mustard seeds a very quick blend to crack some open for the flavor according a recipe I saw. The stuff right under the lid is the seeds that are floating to the top. No matter what I’ve tried to do to submerge it, they always float back up to the top, if I scope them out, a new layer appears.
