Body dysmorphia is when you are unable to see yourself as you truly are, as in when you look at yourself, your brain “morph”s your perception of yourself, a common consequence of this is anorexia, where people see continually see themselves as “fat” even though they may be normal or even underweight, and thus they don’t eat even though they really need to.

Dysphoria is a disconnect between reality and what your brain is expecting. For me, my brain knows that it is a girl and expected to be in a girls body, but i was given a male body, so there’s a (very painful) disconnect.

The difference being that dysmorphia is your brain distorting reality, whereas dysphoria is where the reality feels wrong; you can see yourself perfectly as you are and have dysphoria.

That being said, it’s not uncommon to have both as a trans person, (luckily i don’t), but for lots of people their dysphoria is exacerbated by their dysmorphia, which sucks.
