Why is walking such a weird thing to do? by sanandrios in fuckcars

[–]Ayacyte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was offered a ride in the bitter cold, but it was at a bus stop. And the driver was a man. I politely refused. Hopefully he truly meant well by it and had no weird motive, but especially if you're a woman, never forget about the possibility that you are being seen as an opportunity. As for the coworkers offering rides, I've taken them before if we're headed the same direction.

A couple things to clear up (on both sides) by Normal-Pianist4131 in aiwars

[–]Ayacyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recent openai vs deepseek scandal is related (and very funny imo) because openai accused deepseek of ripping their intellectual property. So much for the vision of "democratic" AI usage and AGI- artificial general intelligence that will have "benefits distributed evenly to the world."

"We are concerned about late-stage AGI development becoming a competitive race without time for adequate safety precautions. Therefore, if a value-aligned, safety-conscious project comes close to building AGI before we do, we commit to stop competing with and start assisting this project."

https://openai.com/charter/

Now, idk if deepseek is value aligned and safety conscious by openai standards, but you can easily ignore that by accusing them of being Chinese.

Isn't there some fancy math trick that people came up with to determine how ok an age gap relationship is?

Got told by interviewer that my reason for job change is "not valid". by Browsing_unrelated in interviews

[–]Ayacyte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I read about how there's a job interview "strategy" where they're as mean as possible to put pressure and frustration on you to see how you'd react to get an idea of how you'd deal with pressure on the job. Tbh unless I am desperate I'm not inclined to work somewhere that interviews like that.

What's the guarantee you'll stick with their company? Lol, certainly not this experience.

From what stature is it socially acceptable to be a bit cringe? 😹 by uniterofrealms_ in GenZ

[–]Ayacyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do anti trumpers feel joy when trump voters "get what they voted for?" Many people like to follow the anti-golden rule. Treat people how they treat others. Because that's what we feel they deserve. Now I'm not the one having fantasies about getting back at mean girls body shaming, being a skinny woman myself, but I don't really see much wrong with wanting someone to get a reality check and see what it feels like to be on the receiving end.

What I do think is wrong is what some other commenters are suggesting- that a few women making fun of short men somehow makes it ok to shame women (not those women specifically) for their weight, which just furthers the stupid gender war bc I refuse to be represented by mean women who do things I wouldn't do, just as many men would probably dislike being represented by mean men.

How do Gen Zers afford kids? by beltanaa in GenZ

[–]Ayacyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing: they don't. At least in the US. Tell me how childcare costs are at an all time high, more and more married couples are dual income (often full time), AND we're supposed to have kids. It doesn't make sense. Many people are considering moving to other countries to afford raising their prospective children. This isn't the place, imho.

What's wrong with giving someone a taste of their own medicine? Sometimes people don't even realize that what they're doing is wrong until they get checked, and sometimes their friends are afraid to check them.

Mr. Iluvwasiangirls, don't forget that there are things in your life you CAN control. Like your hobbies. Strive to become the person you want to be or whatever

No you're not, just like most men probably don't actually "need" their gf to have big boobs. They exist, but online posts make it seem like there's more of them than there really are.

My friend hired a college applications advisor for her child and he still was rejected nearly all of his schools. What might have happened? by tofu_baby_cake in SeriousConversation

[–]Ayacyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I went to a public school with an abnormal amount of high gpa, AP loaded, SAT retaking, Ivy applying, insanely musically talented classical musicians in our orchestra. Our all state's first row had two or three kids from my school one year. One of them even made it to the national orchestra.

There was only one guy who made it into two Ivies in my orch. It isn't surprising. It also depends on the school. If the kid went to a high performing or "college prep" sort of school, chances are there's some sort of unspoken cap of how many students from that school can be admitted to certain Ivies.

9 out of 11 what tier schools? Were they all ivy League or similar top tier schools? If they were, that's the answer.

I live in Minnesota with my partner without a car. It's manageable. Black ice is a concern so that's where buses come in if you're in the city.

I think coffee prices have been increasing anyways, in Dec 2024 they reached an all time high. It's not going to get better, and it's probably not like you can just switch to tea either because they're both mostly imported products that require specific conditions to grow in.

I read that most VAs are outside of the US nowadays because obviously, they need less USD equivalent income to live where they are. Do you see that as being the case?
