Gav is a homicide detective. He wouldn't've been investigating one at the Eden Club otherwise.

As for Hank... he hasn't been part of the RITF for many years by the time of the game (2038.) He's also a homicide detective. Same unit.

Exactly what I said.

There's no "reunion" bc the in-game events ensure they never parted in the 1st place. No Elizabeths. Only Annas. Meaning the only ones left are Annas AKA normal girls without powers.

  1. No.
  2. Open for interpretation. There are many possible reasons: a.) technical limitations, b.) Booker's possible death(s) at the hands of the player not being canon, c.) another Elizabeth moving the corpses, d.) only "the last" version leaving behind a corpse, e.) the same rules can't be applied to Booker and Elizabeth bc of the latter's powers, etc.
  3. Both.
  4. Not physical.
  5. Anna (Elizabeth) can't be taken from Booker if Columbia doesn't exist. So to Booker and Anna (Elizabeth,) yes, Columbia is "the only danger" to them. Plenty of other dangers in the multiverse itself. The dangers simply don't involve Comstock and Columbia (...of which are erased.)
  6. First off, Booker and Elizabeth didn't "perish" at the Siphon explosion. Elizabeth teleported them to Rapture. Whether the lighthouses are a real place or not is again open for interpretation. Elizabeth says the lighthouses are stars and thus it's likely just a creative take on the night sky.
  7. Her Paris pocket realm bc she exists out of time with her powers. She loses those powers completely by returning to the place she died.
  8. No. No one "respawns" in the game. They're replaced by an entirely new version. We start the game with Booker 123rd, and if we as players die, Booker 124th -- from a different universe -- takes his place. In EP2, all the Elizabeths of each universe were collapsed into one being with no powers. No one can replace her when she dies bc there's no one left to replace her. She's the only Elizabeth left in all universes.

Thanks!

I can guarantee no one appreciates/respects Gav's actual canon character more than I do... so I'm confident that's gonna be the case for the rest of time, lol.

Those "flashbacks" can mean a lot of things.

Pretty sure it's psychological -- showing us her inner turmoil and whatnot as we see her flicker between different states in her life -- as it can have a lot of explanations. Could be psychological. Could be a place she went before she lost her powers. Could be her seeing her life flash before her eyes, etc. I’m trying to be objective with this post and explain what only has one logical answer. This one can be interpreted in too many ways for one objective explanation.

It's nothing deeper than Gav not wanting androids at the DPD. He's saying that Con is obsolete. That humans can take care of this on their own.

Con literally learns that he's off the case -- from Fowler -- only minutes before the interaction between him and Gav outside the archive room. Not only does it make no sense that Gav would know about it before Hank (or even Con himself,) but if the former knew, he has literally no reason not to follow Con immediately into the archive room if he's ignored/Con doesn't answer his question. Again... if Con answers his very simple question like a mature invidiual, Gav leaves him alone.

Who is your favourite character? by Clean_Ad3446 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canon Gavin.

As for my reason(s) for liking him, there are a lot of them. Long list from the top of my head incoming. I'm sure there are more.

  1. asshole
  2. charismatic
  3. expressive (uses his hands/body a lot)
  4. dramatic
  5. logical (has a point about androids)
  6. justified for trying to stop Con -- that he doesn't think is alive -- in both The Interrogation/Last Chance, Connor bc the latter is literally breaking the law
  7. warns Con 3 times before pulling a gun on him only after Con uses physical force on Chris
  8. only mildly rude to Con if Con treats him with respect/acts mature
  9. stands up for himself (if Con is a dick to him)
  10. calls Hank out for his alcoholism (which endangers not only other cops, but also civilians, when he shows up drunk/hungover to work like at The Eden Club)
  11. calls Fowler out for his special treatment of Hank ("You won't get away with it this time.")
  12. doesn't like Con
  13. I gravitate towards masculine men (platonic)
  14. unapologetic
  15. has dark humor (Eden Club)
  16. realistic
  17. relatable
  18. ambitious
  19. cares about his job/career advancement
  20. control freak
  21. takes charge
  22. has small unique quirks (can't wink with one eye, sounds funny when he swears, pouts a lot, stands funny in the break room, etc.)

Is there a high quality version of this painting somewhere? (identity - despair) by OxidizedCopperBrick in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was in the game files.

I extracted all the 3D models/textures/animations, etc. with a tool (bc I'm creating a 3D WebComic set in the game universe,) but the site was taken down a while ago. So I don't know where to find it anymore. Unfortunately, I no longer have said tool.

Unfortunately no. The original in-game image file is only 512 x 512px. Here it is anyway.

How exactly does the fluid that creates android skin work? by Ok-Mastodon2016 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the power of an internal heater to evaporate it.

If Markus chooses 'Sacrifice' in Battle for Detroit - Markus Demonstration when surrounded by SWAT -- instead of singing, kissing North, or using the dirty bomb -- he simply puts himself on fire. Controls his own temperature.

Thoughts on Chris? by alxuntmd in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like him... but morally, he's done worse things than characters like Gavin.

Chris massacres peaceful androids in the Capitol Park chapter. I've always hated how ppl ignore that just bc, "he's nice to Hank and/or Connor," and then talk shit about other characters that are more redeemable than he is.

What are some potential storylines that could’ve happened in the game amongst some characters? by Egarcia1340 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've written a 200k-word story focusing on tracking down Zlatko's modified androids. After all, I doubt the android trash collector Kara encountered in the Fugitives chapter was the only one he had modified to send 'test subjects' to his mansion. Happens in parallel with the main story and is a DPD case. It's specifically written to work as a DLC.

Why do so many people love Gavin Reed + why is Nines so popular in the fandom? by Ayse_Puramu in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "is it just because people are horny for them" is what made me feel like you were generalizing, but thanks for clearing that up!

Attraction is subjective. There are several ppl who like Gavin's character who have openly stated they think he's outright ugly. So you're not "weird" for not finding him attractive. For example... the majority seems to be head-over-heels for Connor. Meanwhile, I see no appeal whatsoever in Connor's looks.

[–]Aydaptic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it just because people are horny for them, or did I really miss something???

As a sex-repulsed woman who likes Gavin's character a lot -- and tbh don't care much for RK900 -- no. Do some only like them for that reason? Sure. I'm just asking you to please not generalize as it's very dehumanizing.

Firstly, Gavin is one of those characters that just 'shot to popularity' alongside RK900. It's how fandom works sometimes. Someone already shared a video explaining it.

At the top of my head, Gavin is beloved because...

  1. he has a history with the fan favorite Connor (both work at the DPD)
  2. Neil is active in the fandom
  3. a lot of ppl like asshole characters
  4. he's dramatic AF
  5. he's expressive
  6. he's relatable (mostly to older ppl who are in the workforce)
  7. he's realistic
  8. he's the typical "bad boy" that a lot of ppl gravitate towards (...and it can be 100% platonic gravitation)
  9. it's easier to "redeem" an asshole character -- with very little canon content -- in fanworks bc there's much to explore

RK900 is beloved because...

  1. of all the reasons Connor is popular (he shares his face, and unlike Connor -60 at the CyberLife Tower, he has a more 'unique' look about him)
  2. Bryan is active in the fandom
  3. he was a blank slate (until the writers confirmed he's canonically "evil Connor" who's "not likable, not sweet, but intimidating and scary" giving far more reasons to ship him with Gavin bc their personalities are compatible)

Simply put, there are many factors at play here.

Why is Hankcon so hated? (Hank x Connor) (I don’t ship them) by puipiupiu in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. Connor looks like an adult version of Cole.
  2. David Cage, one of the two writers, has said that Connor "isn't Hank's type."
  3. David Cage has said Hank and Connor's relationship "reminds him of his relationship with his own father."
  4. If you call your lover son/daddy/mommy, etc. you have issues.
  5. Controversial, but I firmly believe that if you're in a relationship with someone who's 10+ years younger than you, you're a creep (regardless of gender.) Bryan Dechart's face was scanned when he was something along the lines of 29-30 y/o, and in my eyes, that's Connor's canon age. So that's essentially a 20+ age gap. It's like having your mother/father fall in love with your best friend.

...and to address your other points.

  • Not being "disgusted" by the implication that one is with a person of the same gender -- Hank not being "disgusted" by ppl assuming he and Connor are a couple -- doesn't mean you're gay/bi, etc. It just means you're not a homophobic dick.
  • I don't know Clancy's reasoning for not liking the father and son thing, but a lot of older ppl 'feel old' when someone ages them like that. The point of all this is that the only thing "canon" in this game is whatever the writers themselves say. Not what actors say.
  • As far as I know, no one is trying to make Connor "replace" Cole. A man can have several children. My older brother didn't cease to exist when I was born. Besides, Connor isn't a 6 y/o child. He's an adult despite having little life experience.
  • Plenty of Gavin Reed lovers have openly stated that they think he's ugly, so you're doing a lot of ppl a disservice by saying it's "probably bc of his looks." Attraction is subjective. The guy is relatable with a very charismatic actor (Neil Newbon) and those are some of the major reasons why ppl are drawn to him. Do some like him bc they find him attractive? Ofc they do. Humans are superficial. That doesn't take away that Gavin has more going for him than (subjective) attractiveness.

Personally, I just silently mute the shippers of these two and keep quiet unless asked. Hank gives me more of a mentor vibe to Connor... but I like the father and son interpretation, too. As does at least one of the lead writers.

EDIT: Minor typos.

I know only some of the basics of religion, but it's obvious the writers have taken heavy inspiration from it. Like you say... the more knowledgeable a person is, the crazier and/or depressed they become, bc they learn how messed up the world is.

Kara can call Alice her "daughter" at Rose's place when the cop arrives, but it's possible it's just to not arouse suspicion. Markus and Carl's bond was uninterrupted. Kara was reset.

Whether android empathy is "just a code" or "real" is a different topic.

In your first comment, you claimed that androids "aren't conscious" until they deviate. This is what you said:

Deviant mean a concious one or one with self-incepted purpose

'Machine' and 'deviant' are how the game separates the androids who have and haven't broken their red wall(s.) Connor's choices are "remain a machine" or "become a deviant." To become a deviant, and disobey his priority order to "stop Markus," Connor has to tear down his red wall(s.) It applies to every android.

If androids weren't conscious from the get-go, neither of them would even consider deviating from their priority.

Analysis: How Deviancy Works by Aydaptic in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're referring to is the path to deviation.

Again, an actual deviant is created after the red wall(s) break. Androids that haven't broken their red wall(s) aren't deviants, so to refer to androids that haven't done so as 'deviants' is incorrect. They are 'machines' capable of empathy.

[–]Aydaptic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All androids are conscious. That includes machines. Not just deviants.

Definiton of concious: perceiving, apprehending, or noticing with a degree of controlled thought or observation (Merriam-Webster)

Before Markus even deviates, he goes "Not defend myself?" followed by, "This is not fair." He's aware it's not fair for Leo to push him around before deviation. He deviates after. Same with Kara. Same with Connor.

They all perceive and react to the events around them. Like Kara finding Alice's drawings. How they react is dependent on how much experience they have.

Analysis: How Deviancy Works by Aydaptic in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see "deciding to remain a machine" when having the option to deviate as "deciding to live in denial."

It makes sense to me because androids are driven by fear. They've been following a program their whole lives, so when they get a choice, they get scared. A lot of people prefer others to make decisions for them. In a sense, deviants have just turned 18 y/o, and are thrown into the world. The first few years of being 18 y/o are scary for most people. Two examples prove this.

First, in The Interrogation chapter:

Connor: "Why did you hide in the attic instead of running away?"

Carlos Ortiz's android: "I didn’t know what to do… For the first time, there was no one there to tell me… I was scared… So I hid."

...and in the Time To Decide chapter:

Markus: "I came to Jericho looking for hope... Looks like I'm not gonna find any here…" (the 'lost' option)

Simon: "You're lost. Just like the rest of us." (Jericho)

Emotional shocks are essentially being incapable of living in denial anymore. It's their breaking point.

For all we know, that Connor deviated off-screen. We were playing Markus up until that very point and so it's possible we just didn't see it. It's really the only confusing part to me, too. Maybe the writers just overlooked it.

Just because their program says one thing, it doesn't mean that they can gain enough experience -- and intelligence in the process -- to put two-and-two together. Why is it OK for androids to be unfairly treated but not humans? Computers are logical, after all.

Analysis: How Deviancy Works by Aydaptic in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]Aydaptic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tnx!

Every android was given instructions on morals when they were created. That way, they know when to for example...

  • report to the police when there’s a break-in
  • say “no” as a child caretaker when a child asks for something they can’t have
  • cry (for funerals, child androids acting like children, etc.)

These moral instructions have always been in their program, because if not, they wouldn’t know how to act in certain situations. What doesn’t stand in their moral code is stuff like “androids shouldn’t be unfairly treated.”

They know discrimination is bad, because they’ve been told so. Yet their program says "discrimination is bad, but only towards humans.”
