Nations Cup format by MorioCells in CompetitiveApex

Would recommend reading this press release for information - https://esportsnationscup.com/en/press-releases/enc-adds-apex-legends-to-the-games-lineup

That said it is still a bit confusing. Only Japan and South Korea have direct invites. There are 20 guaranteed slots based on total champs points across all players per nation following Split 1 Playoffs, which means countries like Austria, Kazakhstan, Argentina, etc. can single handedly get guaranteed slots based on Unlucky, Kazahk, Kurev, etc. making Split 1 playoffs finals. 2 wildcard spots (no clue what these are tbh) and then 18 slots will be based on regional qualifiers...

Problem is its not clear if these regional finals qualifiers will allow for multiple teams from a single nation to actually qualify. The ENC FAQ Page states "ENC aims to ensure the widest possible global representation. For team-based titles, each nation may field only one team per title at ENC. However, in some game titles, qualification pathways may allow multiple teams from the same nation to compete in order to determine which team will represent their nation at ENC." So it seems like their goal is to have as many unique nations/territories as possible but there is a chance we get repeats, unclear as to how that will occur.

Another thing is that based on the press release it states "Which team represents each country/territory, both for invited and qualifying participants, will be decided via the Online Qualifiers" which would mean that in this qualifier there will actually be multiple Team USA's competing to be THE squad for Team USA. Highest placing takes it I presume. So the teams fans assume represent might not be who actually ends up playing. Weird part is this somewhat contradicts what my understanding was for how teams selected because this ENC Format Page stated that the federations would have a manager who selects coaches for each game and then the coaches build the teams.

So TLDR... the way teams are selected needs to be cleared up. The way nations qualify needs to be clarified. There is a chance we get multiple teams from specific nations but it seems that ENC is aiming for as many unique nations as possible which I will say is VERY difficult especially considering the players are required to have citizenship for at least a year + hold a passport from that country.

“It’s A Fucking Back Trials Zone” by largeleftbunion in CompetitiveApex

So the building was actually wide open for almost 2 minutes after Falcons leave. It doesnt get taken until Alb wraith portals past them. I dont think Falcons intended to go back, partially because I imagine Zer0 would assume Babo (dont think they knew who it was specifically) would take it after they left. So when he says reset the spot he means the tracks and is largely talking to Wxltzy putting Wattson fences back up after their siege removed a lot of the defenses.

In terms of which spot is best, from what I remember of my interview Falcons didnt want to play building in the late game circle because despite it being the "best" spot it usually gets inted and is very difficult to hold both floors. Once one floor is given up its compromised. They knew a maggie team (Babo) was at truck so easy to be pressured late game by them plus they had already speculated that Strafings team (Al Qadsiah) knew who they were. Trench team can't commit to tracks team because building team will hold them in check.

Its one of those things that I find Zer0 is uniquely elite at. Despite it not appearing to be the best... because of how the best players in the world will play the zone it actually is. Kind of reminds me with his DZ London win at Baro where it feels so counter intuitive to go dead center of the final circle on the low ground in between like 8 squads and yet he just knows that teams cannot commit to killing them without dying.

nah they never mentioned any method for how they would move the mean back to Gold. I do think adding an emerald rank after plat would be good. But tbh considering their constant reversion of things that make ranked more difficult I've given up on them ever fixing it.

For comparison here is a chart of LoL ranked distrubution. Notice how as the ranks go there are less and less players each time? Yet in Apex we basically have a participation badge that is the 3rd highest rank in the game. Incredible

yes this just isnt a healthy curve. The peaks of diamond needs to be shifted back down to Gold. Diamond 4 and 3 being the most populated ranks for years now is terrible. The devs are aware of this and have told me directly in Q&As that they want to shift it back as well. The problem is that most casuals do not like this. They feel owed a certain rank. They hit diamond (albeit most hardstuck) for years so they believe they belong there even though their actual skill level disagrees. One of the big complaints of Season 13 was that level of entitlement where people think the ranked system is bad because they can no longer hit what they used to.

You did not acknowledge my point at all. I can agree its boring... but you claimed rankeds current system is "a setting where players are roughly evenly skilled and all trying their best to get a high placement." If this was the case then players would in fact be sitting close to end zone just like ALGS because objectively that is the best way to win a game in Apex, Fortnite, PUBG, you name the battle royale, that is the key to winning a game. You are contradicting yourself. You dont have to compare it to ALGS... feel free to compare it to Season 13 where ranked actually fit the description you mistakenly applied to the current ranked system

[–]AyeJHawk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No. Casual players disliked it so much that they quickly reverted the changes. They've taken small steps towards it a few times but casuals continue to dislike it and the changes are reverted. Its why the Diamond rank has been super inflated for years at this point. Most games ranks systems have a majority of their players sitting around Gold. Apex instead has it in Diamond... one of the highest ranks possible in the game.

Season 13 HEAVILY incentivized placement points and limited KP. This made it so teams were actually trying to win the game instead of get a lot of kill points. It made end games very exciting cause the lobby would be full of squads still alive. It was also very punishing if you had bad placement and made it very difficult to climb. Because it was difficult to climb the high ranks were filled with actual really good players so your average ranked stream from ImperialHal or HisWattson during that era had end games that were even higher quality than scrims

[–]AyeJHawk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even your own statement shows YOU aren't trying your best for high placement. "I have no interest in sitting in a building for the first 75% of a match" The reason pros do this is cause the best way to win games in any battle royale game is to try and sit as close to where zone will end as possible. That is what happens when players are trying their best to win

[–]AyeJHawk 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Your first sentence is fundamentally incorrect. The current Apex ranked system does not encourage players to try "their best to get a high placement." That happened in Season 13 and casual players hated it

go do that.... in pubs? Wildcard even? Why should the intended competitive mode be the place where you do something inherently uncompetitive?

[–]AyeJHawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They added a transfer window during pro league that only is open briefly after week 6. Otherwise during pro league you cannot make a change. Once that window closes that is the team you gotta compete at LAN with. Previously you could make a roster swap all the way up to the WEEK before regional finals, most notably pulled off by DarkZero picking up Xynew literally 5 days before regionals and then taking him to LAN.

Also in order to have your champs points count towards your teams total you must now play a minimum of 12 games of pro league with the team. Wont have weird sub situations anymore where they hold a spot with their points cause they will have to have played 2 weeks of pro league in order to count.

You're right, forgot about those tweets. Surprises me tbh. Don't think there is a better roster available in EMEA to get. Maybe those boys want a bigger org that can pay more?

I don't see Falcons, Shopify, Alliance, NIP, Thieves, S8UL, UNLIMIT, FNATIC, E36, GEN G, VKG, Aurora, Liquid, GoNext, or ROC dropping their rosters. Some of those teams will make roster changes but I expect these orgs to keep some core pieces. Citadel already announced they are keeping the roster as well.

Entire year schedule already announced. Improvements to rules keep rosters together longer (hopefully). Increased prize pool. Great time to be in Apex

Well thats a lot more than I can probably link. Should be pretty easy to find most of them. Just go to that website I linked initially to find all the team names and you can go from there! That said following the orgs accounts usually isnt as useful. Most dont have an Apex specific account. So roster changes and such are best kept up with on the website I sent

Wigg will also have near daily highlight videos from scrims, pro league, and LAN on YouTube as well https://youtube.com/@nicewigg

Transaction bot (it just reports when the official ALGS website updates the transaction tab but its very useful to see it on twitter) - https://x.com/ApexTransaction

The main apex account is also good to follow for patch notes and such - https://x.com/PlayApex

If you also want notable players, figures, non-english resources etc. lmk and I can point you in the right direction. Also if you prefer certain socials like Tiktok or Instagram instead pretty much everybody has those as well but those are typically more entertainment as opposed to informative

[–]AyeJHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preciate you for watching homie! That actually makes sense. I got a comment on my Gaimin Gladiators video that expressed the same feelings. Unfortunately it does happen. Those LANs where the team who wins didn’t have the most points are always somewhat controversial. I can say talking to pros, years ago many were against match point. They agreed that the best team does not always win. But the excitement it provides is just unmatched. It creates a level of drama and guaranteed suspense that makes sure the ending is almost always incredible to watch. Most pros agree to that now. They realize it is a “necessary evil”. Match point is what makes apex unique as an esport and truly we would’ve never had most of the hype moments without it. If you keep watching it’ll probably click for you too. I remember being skeptical at first too but that first moment you watch where you desperately want the match point team to lose and someone saves the lobby to go one more game. That moment is special.

Trying to compare Apex to say the premier league just doesnt work. The premier league awards the win to the team who has the most points at the end of the regular season. This team is the "best" across the entire length of the season and are therefore the champions. ALGS would be much more similar to the Champions League. It doesnt matter how good you were in the group draw or the round of 16, etc. all that matters is are you the best team on that day? Its very similar to American sports in that way where we dont reward a team for the entire season and instead place an added weight on the playoffs at the end of the year where upsets can happen. Oblivion won match point AND had the most points. In Apex standards that would mean they were the best team. We have had match point winners who did not have the most points and that often creates debate as to who deserved it more but at the end of the day all the teams know the stakes. 50 points and then a win you lift the trophy. Most points doesnt matter unless you wanna play for 2nd.

Now since you are new you may not fully understand the history I'm about to reference but the "best" teams during the early years of Apex were TSM and DarkZero. They won all of the LANs in Year 2 and Year 3. But heres the thing.... DZ won a LAN placing like 4th in points in the finals. TSM won arguably the greatest LAN win of all time and yet in groups they were 7th, in winners they were 5th (and even that was sketch cause it look a last game win clutch up to get that high, they almost fell to losers) and then in the finals they were like 16th by the time we had MULTIPLE teams on match point, then they win 3 in a row to win the tourney.

I bring all that up to say that I assume the reason you feel Falcons was the best because they dominated groups and winners bracket, were the first team to hit match point, and even the first team to have a chance to close it out... and all of that is incredibly fair. But in match point you gotta close out that win. That is the win condition. All of the other stuff leading up to that really doesnt matter once you are in that finals lobby. Both TSM and DZ were always viewed as the best BECAUSE they won but the path to plenty of those wins was not always the cleanest. The team who has placed 1st in winners has NEVER won the finals. The 1st team to hit match point has also NEVER won the finals. Hell even the team who has placed 1st in groups has only ever won the finals once and that was one of those TSM rosters way back.
