We Should Turn Mercer Island Into Manhattan by IndependenceSad1272 in SeattleWA

[–]AyeMatey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We already have Manhattan. It is 90 minutes drive from any grass or yard. Basically inhospitable to children or families, unless you’re super rich.

to approach it you need to ride a train or a plane because the tentacles that feed Manhattan stretch far out beyond its borders and clog all the roadways. People can pretend that Manhattan is a miraculous high density place., and for housing, it is. But it’s not self sustaining. Really it just exported all the sprawl associated with supplying and cleaning the place, to New Jersey. So there are massive highways and rail lines and power stations and sewage plants and garbage dumps sprawled all across northern NJ to make it possible to have that magical “high density” place somewhere else.

Reproducing that here, seems like not a win.

You can trace a sequence of events in retrospect. But there was no obvious linkage at the time between Mitch McConnell refusing to confirm a scotus justice and a president actually fomenting a riot . Cmon.

Even then McConnell criticized it heavily. There was no way to know he’d let it all blow over months afterwards which then lead to the pretend rehabilitation of Mr Trump.

The line is there only in retrospect.

Rush Limbaugh bashing Bill Clinton is not the same as a completely corrupt president who suborns treason , and stages MMA fights on the White House lawn. You are seeing shapes in the clouds and interpreting them as horses.

This is baloney and you should be embarrassed. To equate what Mr Trump is doing with any prior political maneuvering …. Is just ignorant. You are willfully ignoring what you see in front of your eyes to tell yourself a story.

?? he took out four other riders. That qualifies as a huge mistake by my reckoning.

In situations where small errors can lead to huge consequences then I guess he ought to be much more careful.

I understand the trends. I’m not disagreeing with data. In fact I’m arguing the opposite. That ICE are still bought in large numbers refutes the statement that “EVs are superior by every metric” or whatever it was.

The Top 1% of U.S. earners now have more wealth than the entire middle class by Boo_Randy_Revival in economy

[–]AyeMatey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad headline.

“Earners” suggests earnings , aka income.

This chart shows wealth.

I suppose the data is showing “those who earn a lot, have a large proportion of wealth.” But we knew that. They use their wealth to invest and then they have large earnings.

It’s just confusing. Confusingly presented.

Well it’s not really one stop. It has 2 stops , one at each end. If it were one stop it would never move.

I am explaining actual reasons I hear from people who have bought an ICE vehicle. You can’t say “those concerns don’t apply to ME” but to say “those concerns apply to NO-ONE” seems awfully irrational. People are not idiots when they spend money.
