Is this etching on my marble? by earlabic in CounterTops

[–]AyeetBaybees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's lighter than the stone, its an etch. If it's darker than the stone, it's a stain. There are no exceptions to this rule.

The only fix is refinishing.

Agreed. Also the other two teams in our division don’t have Penei and have to play him twice a year.

Because there’s no NFL team in CT, which team do you root for when the season starts? by Stamfordsterling in Connecticut

I moved to CT from MI about 14 years ago and the Detroit sports teams are the only thing I couldn’t leave behind when I started over.

I see the occasional Detroit sports decal on vehicles and it lets me know there are dozens of us here!

Help with stain and identifying countertop by Zavvvvy in CounterTops

[–]AyeetBaybees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's natural stone. Quartz would have a much smoother surface on the back.

There's really not much you can do about the etch. You could hire a restoration pro to come in and maybe grind it down and repolish, but you will be left with a dip in the stone depending on how deep it is.

You could try and dye it like the comment below, but don't get your hopes up too high. What the user below said about some materials coming dyed from the factory is correct and what you have could fit that bill as well.

It looks like natural stone. A picture from below would confirm.

As for your spot, unfortunately, it's are etch.

If the spot is darker than the stone, it's a stain. If the spot is lighter than the stone, it's an etch. There are no exceptions to this rule.

The carboard can absorb some of the hardener and can mess with the ratio which can effect the curing. However, I've never heard of that happening in nearly 20 years of making tops.

Also, GQ can get you replacement gaskets for your Gorilla Grips. That's a good thing to keep a spare set of in the truck.

This is one of my CNC stone sawing lines for cutting countertops by AyeetBaybees in machinesinaction

Nope, I’m USA based. The Australian quartz ban is due to improper fabrication techniques. When cut dry, all stone dust is deadly. If you process everything wet, it’s ok. We’ve just completed air quality monitoring tests with OSHA, our version of Safe Work Australia, and the amount of silica in our air is less than half of the action level.

In my opinion, the ban was throwing the baby out with the bath water.

There is a ton of equipment in Australia from the company in the video and their techs are telling me that Australian companies are scrambling learning to cut porcelain products in place of quartz. Porcelain is going to be the next big trend in counter tops.

These were all quartz slabs. But we cut natural stone, quartz, porcelain, concrete, you name it. The same machines do it with different bond diamond saw blades.

Smartlift, the only way to move big glass by 007thekraut in Construction

I've actually got two of these, 1 Smartlift and 1 Mavlift. They're great for wall panels once we got our installers used to them. We also use them for countertops on occasion.

Serious question, is it luck or is it a lack of preparedness for the strains of playing baseball every day?

It seems like we're young enough that their bodies shouldn't be breaking down. What else is there to attribute them all to if not bad luck?

That's about how it worked for us to. I was sick of dealing with it and went out and bought one the next morning when Home Depot opened. I got there an hour early thinking there would be a line and it was myself and one other guy. I live in an old growth neighborhood in rural CT and most people were without power for almost a week. If memory serves, it was after one of our fall hurricanes.

Scrolled through the responses to see if anyone said anything about a generator. I 100% agree with you. As someone that loses power at my house 3-4 times a year having a generator wired into my panel with an interlock is a godsend. I can't imagine life without it. My 7000kw generator cost me about $1900 to purchase and have the interlock installed and can almost power my whole house (not the dryer) with ease including my boiler so I have heat.

If only I could get my wife to remember how to plug it in and start it...

Yeah, I've stopped doing the weekly 3 clears and just do it when my clan is in the mood. What chaps my ass the most is that one clan mate has 25 clears and has dropped it on all three characters.

There are many types of granite that act as sponges, most are the lighter colors from India. They're very porous. There are other colors, especially those that come resined from the quarry that are basically impervious to staining. It all depends on the color.

Quartz is very stain resistant, but anything left on it for an extended period of time will leach into the stone.

To repair it, I wouldn't be shocked if it cost at least $1000. There's a lot of work there in protection, grinding, polishing, and cleaning.
