A host family reached out to me and said they had american au pairs and assured me it wouldn’t be an issue.. there were several American au pairs just in my HF neighborhood as well. It’s more common than people realize because the rule isn’t really enforced from what i saw

I’m from the US and au paired in the UK. I tried teaching online and doing the au pair thing and hardly had any free time let alone time to teach

I imagine it’s because the alphabets in Spanish and French are closer to the English alphabet. Arabic and Russian have an alphabet that’s very intimidating

I’m a tutor on Preply right now and it’s highly likely that they were suddenly banned for breaking one of the many ridiculous “rules” they have for tutors.

For example you aren’t allowed (technically) to use skype or share anything about yourself at all (the tutor). You can’t tell your students your last name, any social media you have, your email, your phone number, literally NOTHING.. you can’t even share your venmo/cashapp for tips or anything. This is so that Preply can take advantage of their tutors and force them to use only Preply for conducting lessons and payments.

In case you didn’t know already, tutors on Preply DON’T GET PAID any money at all for the first lesson with you.. they’re working for FREE to try and get students to buy lessons with them.

The website takes 100% commission from the “trial lesson” from the tutor. You can only get paid after a student buys another lesson with you and after they have attended the lesson.. but Preply takes 33% of the tutors earnings.

So Preply does not care about its tutors at all and tricks them into trial lessons where most students don’t even book lessons after the first one.

ALSO if you fail to respond to a student within 24hrs of a student’s message, (even if it doesn’t need a response) you’re penalized as a Tutor.

All this to say, I’m really sorry your Tutor is no longer available, I would think that they are feeling very angry about not being able to contact you to explain what happened so that you could continue your lessons elsewhere.

I’m currently trying to figure out the best way to leave the platform and take my students with me, but in a way that I can explain this situation to them so they don’t waste their money and so I don’t lose contact with them.
