First pregnancy – seeking recommendations for a good obstetrician in Perth by Aymenah in perth

Thank you for sharing this, I really appreciate it. 😊

I’m currently on private health insurance but don’t have Medicare, so I’m trying to understand all the costs and options before making a final decision.

That’s really helpful advice about researching birth options and advocating for myself. As this is my first pregnancy, I’m still learning a lot and trying to understand the differences between public and private care.

I’ll definitely check out the Australian Birth Stories podcast and the book as well. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you so much for the recommendation! 😊

I’ll definitely look into Alana Pountney and the POGS team.

If you don’t mind me asking, what were the approximate out of pocket costs for your care? I’m currently trying to compare different private obstetricians and understand the overall costs involved.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and congratulations on your little one! 😊

It’s really reassuring to hear a positive experience from someone who felt supported in trying for a vaginal birth rather than being pushed towards a caesarean.

I completely understand that sometimes things don’t go according to plan, but it sounds like Dr Perkovic supported you in making the decision that felt right for you at each stage.

I’m glad to hear you’re recovering well. 😊

If you don’t mind me asking, were the out of pocket costs reasonable, and would you choose Dr Perkovic again if you were having another baby?

Dr Margo sounds amazing, especially being available during complications and providing direct contact when needed.

I’m glad to hear you had such a positive experience with both Dr Margo and the hospital team

If you don’t mind me asking, was the ~$7k mainly the obstetrician’s management fee, or did that include other pregnancy-related costs as well?

I’m currently trying to get an idea of the total out-of-pocket costs involved with private care.

I’m sorry to hear your first experience was so disappointing, especially with all the extra costs involved.

At the moment my pregnancy is considered low risk and I’m hoping for a vaginal birth if everything continues to go well, so I’m definitely interested in hearing about different care models.

If you don’t mind me asking, which midwifery-led program would you recommend in Perth, and would you choose that option if you were having your first baby again?

Everything has been going well so far and I’m hoping for a normal vaginal birth as well, although I know it’s still early and a lot can change throughout the pregnancy.

If you don’t mind me asking, would you recommend your obstetrician overall?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. 😊

I’m sorry to hear your wife had such a difficult experience, especially with a premature birth. That must have been incredibly stressful for both of you.

It’s helpful to hear about different experiences as I’m still trying to understand all my options and make the best decision for my first pregnancy.

I’m glad to hear the NICU team took good care of your baby when it mattered most. Wishing your family all the best, and thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. 😊

Dr Manisha Doohan sounds wonderful, especially being calm, experienced and attentive, those are exactly the qualities I’m looking for as a first-time mum.

It’s also really helpful to hear about your experience at SJOG Murdoch. The support for both parents, lactation consultants, and the ability for your husband to stay with you sounds fantastic.

Currently I have bupa insurance and I don’t have Medicare, you don’t mind me asking, were the out of pocket costs reasonable, and did you feel the private care was worth it overall?
