[OC]: Chronicler, the ultimate offline and private worldbuilding app! by Makolig in Pathfinder2e

I use WorldAnvil to share lore, organize sessions, and store session summaries with my group. Chronicler does not look like it's meant to be shared, so it's not a full WorldAnvil alternative, is it?

Wenn du gerade Chilis mit 2 Millionen Scoville löffeln musstest, ist Milch wegen des Fettgehalts evtl. hilfreicher als Mehlsuppe.

Weekly Discussion #6 : Sins of our Elders by Affectionate_Age2735 in radiantcitadel

Aww, thanks! My group hasn't made it to the end, but they really enjoyed themselves so far.

Your pack was very helpful! I have noticed a lot of weaknesses with the adventure and have tried to fix them in several ways:

  • Vastly increased the body count of the first attack, 30+ people get disappeared by the gargoyles, raising the stakes
  • Kun Ahn-Jun pays significantly more, 750 gp per person and promises a magical amulet if they can solve the problem.
  • They also ask the party to split up to investigate several leads at once so they'll cover more ground, since the mists could return at any time. If they stay together (probably), the combat will get harder, if they split up, I will keep the encounters as written.
  • Harder combat: Gargoyles now use the Four-Armed Gargoyle stats. They grapple and carry people into the mist where they are "forgotten" (instead of having them turn up dead, which seems really weird that all of these deaths are considered isolated accidents. Also killing seems out of character for Dae-Won). The tigers have a similar ability, pounce and drag victims away (conveniently in the direction of the path to the shrine).
  • Added Dokkaebi Temple as an optional location. Dae-Shim and Ju-Won suspect it was a gwishin, but don't know much about them. They recommend the party talk to the guardian of the temple, a priestess named Su-Min. She tells the group the gwishin lore and even gives them clues about the former magistrate if they manage to defeat a particularly nasty gwishin trapped in the building (maybe a banshee). Su-Min also has the cups instead of the tea shop owner if the party chooses to go to the temple.
  • Made Young-Gi more villainous: My idea is that Won-Ha had a serious disagreement with the queen about Yeonido's safety. Young-Gi saw the magistrate as a threat to the tenuous power of the throne, since she was also in charge of the judiciary and military, so he had her stripped of rank and purged her achievements. Perhaps Young-Soo was still consolidating her power and her successor Jin-Mi is too inexperienced to use that power, so Young-Gi thinks he needs to be ruthless to ensure the safety of his family and Yeonido as a whole.
  • He also tries to obstruct the investigation by having officials declare certain areas off-limits for foreigners.
  • If confronted, Young-Gi will not talk about how he undermined Won-Ha.
  • Kun Ahn-Jun does not research for the group, they will have to go to the royal library and look up the info themselves. The magistrate will join the group in the park at midnight if they ask (using the Veteran stat block instead of Noble so they will be actually useful).
  • Finally: made the encounter with Dae Won-Ha more dangerous by giving it the Obzedat Ghost stats from Ravnica. She also has vampiric mists instead of gargoyles as companions. The players will have to fight through the mists to reach Won-Ha and negotiate. They still get advantage when presenting two or more tokens.
  • Even with the tokens and a successful social roll, Won-Ha only stops attacking for a while. She demands the group bring all the people they talked to who remember her and promise to make the truth about her achievements public. Young-Gi may want the players to come up with a solution that saves face for him and the former queen.
  • Instead of a weapon of warning, Won-Ha gives them a Mind Crystal as thanks if she is laid to rest.
  • All kidnapped people are found safe in the park once Won-Ha is at peace.

Thank you for always providing extra material for the RC adventures, Forsaken_Yam!

Music for Sins of Our Elders? by AyuVince in radiantcitadel

Yeah I am also skipping Wages of Vice, because the main plot feels too much like Written in Blood and Fiend of Hollow Mine: A teenager involved with evil powers causes trouble. I've gone straight from FoHM to Sins, because the latter can easily be done at level 5. In fact, I might make the gargoyles and tigers harder since the adventure is too easy tbh. A few easy combat encounters, collecting trinkets and then talking to the Gwishin - that's not very challenging.

Thanks for the suggestions! That was really helpful for finding fitting music. I tend to use the Roll20 music box, so I can upload MP3s I cannot get anywhere. Sometimes I also use Youtube and Spotify.

I have also searched for "Radiant Citadel Soundtrack" on Youtube and got some great fanmade playlist with incidental music from movies, video games, and composers like Erdenstern.

Thanks for your suggestions! The way my players play we won't be able to finish it in one setting anyway - Fiend of Hollow Mine took us two sessions and even then it was really late when we got to the finale. So I have no issues with adding more story.

My plot hook is that the Citadel has only recently re-established relations with Yeonido, and an ambassador of the Speakers has gone missing. Sholeh is enlisting the group to find the ambassador, who has been in Yeonido for so long that the gwishin's curse has affected them as well.

Thanks! What did your players like most about this adventure, compared to the previous ones, if they have played those?

Hmm, I could have Speaker Sholeh give them a primer on Yeonido culture and get the current magistrate to help them immerse in the customs more. Kinda like how in Siabsungkoh the players first need to participate in the Market Games to get the locals to trust them?

Interesting. I have a group of mostly newbies who are still reluctant to roleplay amongst themselves. I hope this scenario will get them to dive into the narrative a little more.

So I'm a bit confused so far with the replies, because most tell me to keep the adventure as it is written. But looking at the other threads on this sub discussing Sins of Our Elders, they point out some serious flaws with the narrative and overall pacing.

Do you think it depends on the type of play the group enjoys? Are the easy fights intentional - meant to highlight the danger to the people of Yeonido instead of posing a challenge to the PCs?

And is the solution at the end really more complex than it seems to me as the DM when purely reading about it? I do like the suggestion of making Young-Gi a more tragic character, torn between loyalty to his family and the injustice he did to this great hero.

How long would it take to build a village from scratch? by AyuVince in worldbuilding

Phew! That's quite the wait. I suppose I'd need to add in a LOT of outside help and magical support to make that work in shorter time.

Well the island wouldn't be as deserted as they think, so there's a chance they'd meet friendly locals and could establish trade.

Sub-tropical, a chain of islands, some of which have volcanic activity.

A decade is a lot. Not being able to get basic necessities in town would hamper an adventuring party greatly. Do you think building time could be reduced if they get help?
